My ex-colleague asked to borrow my car for their wedding (3 days). Coincidentally i'm working on that same weekend, so I cannot drive :( but I'm not comfortable letting other ppl driving my car, it's like my wife and i never let anyone drive it b4. So my ex-colleague a bit disappointed la coz i cannot lend him my car, and I just told him upfront i'm not comfortable letting his friends driving my car. I felt bad too, coz it's his important day and if I can I would love to do him this favor, but.... I dont know is it only me that feels this way. I felt a bit selfish, but at the same time I am really reluctant to let anyone touch it. I know it's just a normal car and people will say 'cehh what so special, dun think ur car so great', but to me it's much more than a normal car ! furthermore, i had experience of mishandling this car due to its rear-wheel drive and almost skided masuk longkang, and i am afraid the incompetency of the driver for my friend wedding :(So am I the only 1 here that face this situation? Pls share your experience if there's any who face the same dilemma too. U may also shoot me if u think i am selfish :(

IMHO, your ride is something personal to you and by you posting this, you've in a way expressed your feelings...

And no, you're not selfish by not wanting to lend your ride :)

Nothing wrong la with your actions.

Some of us are incredibly fussy or particular about our rides. Of course you feel bad for turning down your buddy, but can you live with the guilt or heartache if anything untoward were to occur, and the blame game starts?

So, don't feel bad. Your buddy is already an awesome chap for considering your ride as his wedding ride.

how to make him understand? because I think the conversation ended quite bad, with his understanding and mine not aligned.

Give it some time. He's probably too tied up with his wedding plans bro. Sometimes it's best to not add on to his worries. He'll manage.

Last time my missus' best pal wanted to borrow my car for her wedding, but I wasn't keen on the idea. But, ended up quite well also. They found a modded Camry to do the honours. :)

Just let things be. After all, what are friends for if we don't learn to forgive, forget, and move on?

I feel for u, nothing to explain, but may be u can let him a trustable driver.

thanks a lot guys... this morning i asked my other friends to look for bmw car rental, and i thought of subsidize/sponsor the weds... but i just got to know its rm800 a day for a 5 series.. i @_@

it's their special day and i really hope things will go well for them and get a good car

my 2 sen, it's not worth the risk from a liability POV, which you can explain to your buddy. The exposure of someone who's not nominated in your insurance policy driving your vehicle puts any claims at risk.
If it makes you feel any better, I too am "selfish" la...don't feel comfortable with any else driving my car. Not that I don't want to share the good feeling I get, but it makes me nervous with someone else behind the wheel of my machine!! haha

It's a real pain when work gets in the way.

Maybe got happy ending after all?

It's not often that one gets the chance to be a wedding driver for your buddy! :p

Bro borrow your car lar because i saw there was ribbon on your avatar ha....ha...............

Mine is old car who la wan to borrow from me.

That ribbon was used for my own wedding la.

i never let anyone touch my car even my mom , gf or even friends...lmao! im kinda defensive about my car..i don't care what they say that im ' poyo' or 'kedekut' i just say its my car my choice who are u to decide if anything happen can u pay for it?

Normal reaction la...

Imagine directing the same question to an owner of an exotic like Lambo or Ferrari...

You'd probably be greeted with a nonchalant look...

Same here, I won't let anyone drive my car, unless he is someone that I know is a good driver. Why I said he is, my car is a manual and I don't think anyone from the fairer sex wants to use the heavy clutch!

Aiya, means I cannot drive also la... :driver:

It's ok to say NO..don't think you could live with yourself if anything happened to your car or worse still, your friend..

Just gently decline..appreciate his trust & esteem in wanting your car as his wedding ride but I suppose if you explained if anything were to happen as you're not sure of the driver you couldn't live with yourself..you can add in your own experience almost masuk longkang yourself as you were still not used to the car initially..

If all else fails...firm NO & see how he values your friendship over simple matter of borrowing a car..

Cheers :)

Wise words from the guru...

Your LWB sure must've been used for a wedding or two, no? :vroam:

Aiya, maybe for your buddy's wedding. Haha...

A car that sports Alpina stripes doesn't suit being a wedding car. :p
