Came across this article and I tough I might just share it with you guys. What do you think ? This is serious porblem no ? Get ready for freak weather, world's polluters told MONTERREY, Mexico (Reuters) - The world's top polluting nations were told on Wednesday to prepare for decades of weather turmoil, even if they act now to curb emissions and pursue green energy sources. Environment and energy ministers meeting in the Mexican city of Monterrey vowed to work faster to control global warming as scientists told them each year wasted in curbing greenhouse gas emissions would cost them dearly. Yet even if countries froze emission levels tomorrow, the world still faces 30 years of floods, heatwaves, hurricanes and coastal erosion, the British government's chief scientific advisor David King, said. King - who considers global warming a bigger threat than terrorism - said rich nations must help the developing world prepare for a weather shift that could put millions of lives at risk. "We've got 30 years of climate change ahead of us even if we stop right now. Were persuading countries they have to adapt to the changes that are ahead of them," King told Reuters at the meeting of top greenhouse gas emitting countries. "Because we've raised the carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere so quickly, the earth's climate system is falling behind. This is way in excess of anything the planet has known, probably for 45 million years," he said. Among countries who sent ministers to Monterrey were China and India, whose ballooning demand for energy has made them some of the worst polluters after the United States, which pumps out a quarter of the world's greenhouse gases. The United States, which could face fiercer hurricanes as sea temperatures rise, sent a senior official, but U.S. officials did not brief the press. Already, a roughly 1 degree Celsius temperature rise over the past century has allowed icy Greenland to start growing barley, and farmers in Spain are battling arid conditions. "The people in denial now are the equivalent of the Flat Earth Society," British Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks told Reuters in an interview. "Humankind is in a race for life against global warming." Delegates discussed energy efficiency, conservation and how to fund initiatives like storing the carbon dioxide from coal-fired power plants deep underground. But it is likely to be at least the end of the decade before most projects can get off the ground. "Time is running out, and the size of the challenge is enormous," Mexican Environment Minister Jose Luis Luege said. Developing countries at the talks - including South Africa, Brazil and Mexico - were told to adapt for possible floods, droughts, storms and a surge in tropical diseases like malaria.

Selangor all set to face possible flash floods

SHAH ALAM: Measures have been taken to counter the possibility of flash floods which may occur in low-lying areas in Selangor over the weekend because of high tides and heavy rains.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohd Khir Toyo said among action taken to date was inspection of the flood mitigation mechanism.

“The Drainage and Irrigation Department was instructed to ensure all floodgates and sluice gates are in good order,” said Mohd Khir.

He added that district officers and municipal council presidents in flood prone areas had also been directed to ensure that warning systems were in place.
“The Shah Alam City Council has been instructed to send out patrol units to warn residents if there were insufficient sirens to reach everyone,” said Mohd Khir.
He added that the riverbank near the flood-prone Kampung Kebun Bunga in Batu Tiga, Shah Alam, had also been strengthened.

Water retention ponds had also been built in Taman TTDI Jaya, another flood prone area, he said.

On Tuesday, principal assistant press secretary of the Selangor government’s press secretariat Farush Khan Akbar Khan had issued a press statement saying that low-lying areas in Selangor might be hit by flash floods this weekend due to high tides and heavy rainfall.

Dr Mohd Khir said following last year’s experience, high tides were expected to occur from tomorrow till Tuesday.
Coupled with rain, he said, there was a possibility of flash floods.

Hmmmm, what the cities in China like Shanghai? The last time I was in Shanghai 3 years back, it was daily haze like what we are suffering now.

I doubt the list is accurate. Have they taken into account all the cities in the world?

Well, the north pole is already melting. Some islands are already disappearing, with more to come. The biggest culprit is the United States which has refused to sign the Kyoto Treaty. So what you gonna do??? Join Al-Qaeda?

Flash, which part of Shanghai (Pudong or Pu shi)

possibly flash, Now that you have mentioned it I do agree that most cities in china are heavily polluted. In fact not so long ago I read some where that in the list of top 50 most polluted cities in the world, China has six of them, but nevertheless you cannot discount the fact that KL too is very very bad.

so does anyone else think that world pollution is actually making our weather go wonky... I dont know that why I am asking

But guys, do u all remember before Tsunami hit us, the Haze was this bad too...

Will it be a warning for us to be prepared for something bad to be happen???

Bro, the haze will go for months as what they predicted due to the Ozone Layer is getting thin off.... :(

Besides, later we'll put on mask again like before, sigh.....:(

These donkey Americans are never gonna want to sign the Kyoto Treaty. They dont wanna dent their energy / fossil fuel profits. trust me as soon as they have found a way to manipulate the power of the sun so that they can sell to us at exhorbitant prices, they will sign the treaty.

yes many factors contribute to global warming and heads of nations are very well aware of it, but refuse to budge as they seem to be more worried about an economy collapse more than the destruction of the human race... what can you ?? Say prayer everyday lah I guess...

i thought it was suppose to rain heavily, but now its hazing heavily... the air is so bad today.

How worst can it get? My eyes are drying up like nobody's business out here!!!
