hello guys.. just wanna ask all the sifus out there bout gearbox:1: what gearbox suites m40 engine?2: does different gearbox give different performance?3: which one suites me if i want some gain in performance?thanks in advance

Gearbox change for performance gain???
u referring to the gearbox of the final drive for the rear diff?

changing the gearbox how help much unless u're referring to the close ratio dogleg gearbox.

another way is to use a higher final drive ratio for brisker acceleration. The 318i comes with 4.10 final drive. u can go for 4.27 or 4.45 for acceleration but may suffer a bit on fuel consumption partly bcos u'll tend to be heavy footed and always higher cruising speed.

if u want a 4.45 final drive, I have spare....

btw if i change my final drive to 4.25 does it mean that i have to change to manual tranny?mine's an auto tranny.. and how much is the cost? :dunno:

for auto, better use fabian's spare 4.45,
the other manual 325i will try to outrun you but cannot.....you have a taller ratio,

but beware.......your auto tranny life is shorten drastically, then its also good...you can upgrade to manual then autobox kaputs.........

If your M40 uses the ZF4HP22 as well, bear in mind that they are fragile autos in the first place or at least thats what I have read. Apparently the older versions are more durable (as written by BMWCAR mag)(i dunno which ones.... the one with less speeds?? Mine PRND321.... maybe those with PRND21 .... ada ke?)

your gearbox will kaput,

and he is lucky he rebuild it, it will last a little longer, but yours will kaput


then have to get manual tranny liao.......
