i mean keep the radiator fan spinning as i drive 90% from KL city>kepong>sri damansara...traffic jammed most of the time,my concern is will aluminium block easily overheated altho we use good coolant?

I think V need to check radiator everyday b4 v start d engine. 10 years car bro. Actually, alu is a good heat excharge material, our radiator make of alu also. If v don't check our engine (lub oil & water) frequently, the heat energy will damage another parts of engine & piston jam even though v use iron block engine.

agree with u bro, heard from other tat iron block is year 93 & above.issit true?

Not sure. After 1995 or 328 all are alum block. I prefer new engine. If u offer me a choice. modern alu engine won't melt bro!!

yes,i also prefer newer engine & lower milage.as long as carry on the checking & maintainance.

any other tips or advise?

I prefer E90 bro. I am going to buy it next....15years later. If half cut, I prefer the used engine not more than 5 years (if possible). Bcos condition of radiator, hoses, water pump, thermostat, water spare tank and rad cap are the time to change. Its cost alot of money. tat y, sometime I hope tat I can get used engine from some of our senior forumers here. Bcos they keep thier engine vy well!!

it's all depends on the price of half cut or the engine from forumer...

I hv the feeling tat 320 engine a bit rare at here..... Plan for bigger engine?

Money not enough to spend is a globalize issue. But 325 wif potential to upgrade in d future & parts easy to get I think......

let me figure out the pro & con of 320 single vanos 1st...

u got any good deal meh?dun tell me it's in Sabah

Hi tamade7! Can u share us more your experience here?! Wat engine u convert bfor? Tell us more pls....

My car 1993 318is coupe manual
Donor car 1998 318ti auto
Auto to manual wiring = problem
ti to is wiring = problem

Those who doesn't know how to convert will cut and join wires. Potential prob would be on ABS, EWS, sunroof, power windows, ecu and so on.

Those who knows will add or remove wires (no cutting at all). By doing that there will be no prob at all.

My experience is good. So far I have never encounter any prob at all. Cost of doing the conversion is around RM10k + my original engine. The conversion includes change whatever is necessary so that the engine runs like new.

Btw when doing any transplant never have incompetent mechanic to do it for you. I saw a car that did a 4 speed gb to 5 speed gb conversion and the result was car won't move plus wiring all has to be replaced. The worst thing is nobody dares to fix it because it is too messy and cost alot to get things fixed.

bro tamade7,wat engine been converted to ur 318 coupe?320 or 325?from auto to manual?where u did the conversion?how much for the half cut?labour cost?

I think I can on behalf tamade7 to answer your questions as follows:

318is coupe manual converted to1998 318ti auto
The conversion costed him 10k+
Coverted in KL (He didn't mention which workshop)
Result: the engine runs like new
Problem: When the mechanic mix up your wiring. Cost u alot of $ & time. ( Just like What I am worry now)

haa c...there is a lot of people out there need spare part if u dont want...it's easy..if it's wrong one then try again next time :D
