Recently I found some ATF oil on my porch. Took to my regular mech and after inspecting the undercarriage, he told me that the gearbox was leaking from the o-ring and that to fix it he would need to open up the gearbox. My 1995 E36 325i is running fine with no gearbox problems apart from this leak. He suggested just to leave it. Well the leak isnt much, probably a few drops if I leave the car overnight. More accumalates if I leave the car stationary for a few days. What should I do? Opening up would probably entail an overhaul, ie changing to o-ring/disc etc. Thanks

Welcome back to the forum Dominic.

Which O-ring is leaking?

Thanks. Have you checked out my Munich pics. Maybe you guys should organise a trip to Munich. With the current air fare promos, it could be done on a budget.

As for the o-ring, I have absoluely no idea. He just pointed to a dismantled gearbox unit in his workshop and said something about the gearbox o-ring.

My reading reveals that the gearbox repair includes changing the o-ring.

Anyone care to share their experiences.

Thanks.
