E39 gearbox,... i lost reverse!

The gearbox was fine until today when reverse refused to engage. Took it to my mechanic and there was no leaks, full oil and by fiddling a little, reverse worked at 25% power. He took a quick test-drive and he said most likely the whole thing is trash, but can only confirm when disassembled. Have been quoted Rm9500 for a recon unit Has anyone had a similar problem? Mine is a 530i so is there any specific gearbox I should get? Or should I take it to a UDM specialist with a proper diagnostic computer?

bro, y not u get a second or even third opinion on the repair & replacement if really needed, 9.5k is a big amount. try rebuild specialist like M-Scope or Hi-Tech, u can get their contact from motortrader coz they always advertise full page, seems very pro with their dignosis equipment and tools
