Dear All,I need yr opinion from u all,Mine e46 325i facing this problem recently. When change to sport mode after hard battle with some other car suddenly feels jerking when press the accelerator. Change to D and sometimes can feel the same when suddenly press the pedal. It's my gearbox gone kaput ?Can anyone give advice what to do. many2 thanks

1st - hook it up for a diagnostic read out and see the fault code and go from there.if nil fault code, check the fluid level.if low....top up.

if still no good....whack that feller till koyak and then go for an overhaul so you can whack the life out of that feller the second time around.

the car's meant to be enjoyed right.......

lol... actually i got almost similar problem when you accelerate suddenly, the car hesitate for a while... no jerking tho... but after a few days driving in "Aunty mode" things go back normal...

Same as my brother's ride. Gearbox oilpump failure due to unhealthy gb oil. Cost him rm6k++ to overhaul it. Hopefully all parts that replaced genuine. Goodluck bro :)

question that has always puzzled me....

some ppl say overhaul the GB is anytime better than getting a recon or second hand gearbox...
any thoughts?

also whats the durability? anyone overhauled/replace with recon or second hand gearbox?

Getting a recond/used GB, you wouldn't know the actual condition and parts that have been replaced, might not be original. A used/recond GB costs around the range of RM4-5k.

Despite overhaul of GB costs slightly more, in the range of RM6k, at least you get the peace of mind that GB is overhauled with brand new parts, provided you go to a reputable place to do the overhaul.

Me also going through the same problem, switch it to sports mode jerking, whack'em out, burst out the GB aledy. Masuk workshop cost me about 3k plus for the repair works then back to normal cond...

Bro, have you changed the ATF before?
At what mileage did this happen?
Thanks, just want some info...

i think the recommended duration to change the GB oil is every 50k i think.
read it somewhere in this forum but forgot where....

for me... i think 50k is reasonable so that you keep the GB in good and running condition

Always change it right on time.. The mechanic said that i always run the engine rpm over 3k before the GB oil pump can in the oil. It take some time to circulate the oil inside. So you have to wait until the engine is heat up and oil circulate nicely then you go fast.

Same thing happens to my car, luckily i just have to change the oil pump and the tork converter only.

50k km is just a common rule of thumb but if you're a high revver change more frequent...30-40k km? :)
