Anyone have any funny E90 stories to share? I have one, which happened to a friend of mine (I got the story direct from the car owner/driver).This friend of mine (whose gender shall remained unidentified, but I think many people here will make a stereotypical guess!) drives a E90 325i. One day a few months after purchasing the car, my friend noticed that the Flat Tyre Indicator warning light had come on. Of course, my friend was upset that so fast already got punctured tyre, and knowing cost of a replacement RFT, well.... not happy lah.So my friend drives straight to the service centre and asks the mechs there to either change the tyre or fix the warning light (if there's a fault in the warning light). A bit later, one of the mechs comes over and asks, "Sir/Ms, when was the last time you pumped air into the tyre?", to which my friend answered, "never".The mech told my friend that the flat tyre warning light came on because well.... the tyre was flat since my friend never pumped any air in. The mech said they already pumped air into all the tyres, and that where would be no charge. My friend was so embarassed...... ended up buying a few of the little things on display (keychains, t-shirts, etc) coz felt so malu. I laughed so hard when I heard the story. :D

Something is not right. RFT indicator will only lit if it sensed one of the wheel is giving an unusual spinning ratio compare to the other 3. This must be the logic to trigger the RFT indicator.

How do u explain one of the tyre deflate faster than the other 3? So in this case, which 1 is deflate? or maybe only 1 got air and the other 3, flat?

Does not make sense..

My E90 is 15 months old and only done 2 tyre pressure checks before. 1 is 2 months after the delivery, 1 and last week.... amazingly, they are all still in perfect pressure!! 13 months interval!! 20k km covered!

So if after few months already no air, its either the SC didn't pump air for u when they deliver the car few months back, or there is a confirm puncture or loose valve or dent rim!

Dunnolah.. my friend's car... maybe one tire flatter than the others...

For my car, I pump tires once a month, to make sure I stay at my preferred pressures, and usually there is at least about 5kPa difference. But then I also pump at all sorts of times (morning/afternoon/night) so I suppose the temperatures also cause a difference.

I check my tire pressure at least once every 2 weeks and at the same time, I do physical inspection of the 4 tires as much as possible.

Actually, it is possible that one of the tires deflates faster than the other. This has happened to me before. I don't know the exact root cause but one possible explanation is that if your wheel hits a pothole fast/hard, there will be deflation on that tire. It is just my hypothesis but the fact is that I experieced only 1 tire with much lower pressure than the other ones.

15 months and do 2 tire checks is not enough. IMHO

Funny bimmer stories

I have a similar actual story but it was not E90 but another 3 series. THis was back when I was in US. I was working then and I got to meet some of the rich Singaporean kids studying in San Francisco. One of the girls was driving a 3 series (a gift from the parents because they felt that a German car was much safer than Japanese cars). That was an E36 then.

She drove the car until one day she observed smoke coming out from the engine compartment. Upon towing the car to BMW service center, she was asked by the mechanic when was the last time she service the car. She had an innocent look and said "do I have to do that?" :burnout:

Well Traveller, maybe your friend was embelishing the story a bit and only one tyre was low on air. :) But if it happens that all 4 were low and had been for some time, you should advise him/her to change all 4 tyres. With RFTs you can't see underinflation visually and if driven for a period of time in that state, they would be at risk of ply separation and sidewall flex damage, the no 1 causes of blowouts. Damage starts from the inside of tyres and you can't see it on the outside.

Hah... so many people were in SF.... I lived there for a year and a half, working right after graduating from grad school.... when were you guys there? I was there from 1998-1999. It was while living there that I got my first glimpse of the E46, and borrowed my ex's brother's E36 M3 for a long-distance drive :top:.

Aha! Thanks to all the sifu here.....
If in doubt contact them or post in forum. NO need to drive to service centre first ;p

Interesting ... I was in SF in 1989 and experienced the 7.1 big earthquakejust 1 month into my first job!
I left SF to come back in 1993. I consider US as my US home and I really miss some of the great places in SF and Bay area. So many fond memories there ...
