How about a new class of membership - Forum Member - RM30 per year to cover hosting fees? :)RM300 - for me is almost two tanks of RON97. I don't join any TT or any drives. I use this forum to get info & advice, and share info & advice (whenever I have any worth sharing). Now, if you offer an entry-level FORUM PAID MEMBER at RM30, then I will be more inclined to sign up. Just full access to the forum. Nothing else. I used to be part of a UK car forum when I was living there. They go on donations only. Once in a while, if they don't get enough donations, they will post a thread asking for donations as facing the next hosting fee renewal. It's been running for 8 years or so now. Still going strong. :p

Interesting suggestion. I hope the committee members will consider this idea.

Kamion,

Thanks for your suggestion.

As you may not be aware of, BMW Club Malaysia is registered club with the Registrar of Societies Malaysia (ROS) and our club is governed by the Constitution of BMW Club of Malaysia. The stipulated entrance fee and yearly subscription fees are RM150 and RM 150 respectively. The club cannot ammend the Constitution as and when it likes. Rather an EGM or AGM has to be called for any ammendmends to the Constitution and ammendments has also to be approved by ROS.

Your suggestion of having another new class of memberships may be a good suggestion. The Managing Committee can include this new class as one of the agenda in an EGM or AGM but the final decision will solely rest on the voting rights of the club members.

Thank you

Yes, I was not aware of the intricacies behind running a club. :) Thank you for your explanation, Herbert.

That is true if you want to make forum members part of the BMWCM.

But if all the user wants is "full access" (save for the club threads), then just charge access fee. I don't know the details of the constitution, but looks like an operational matter within the purview of the CM. If that is the case, then you probably don't need to call for an AGM or EGM as these forummers won't be members of the Club. Its still status quo in terms of membership status, constitution etc. etc. CM just need to sit down and agree to impliment and figure out the payment mechanism. I've made several suggestions on how to do that in the other threads for your consideration.

"But some OM may not agree" some may say. Actually, the forum is already in this situation. Until the Club decides to make the forum exclusive to members, might as well get some $$ to help with the upkeep right? IMHO, a win-win for all.

Kamion, I was also part of a motorcycle club forum who runs via a donation system to fund upkeep. Seems to work well there too. Maybe that is a good model to adopt?
