May 7, 2010 MYT 8:55:14 PMFive in family killed in head-on crashBy FARIK ZOLKEPLIKOTA TINGGI: Five members of a family, including two girls aged one and six, died after their car was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle, near Felda Sungai Ara here.They were travelling from Pahang to Johor Baru in their Proton Wira, to attend a relative's engagement ceremony, when the incident occurred at 1.30pm Friday.It is believed that the other vehicle, a Mercedes Benz, was in the opposite lane heading towards Mersing, and crashed into the Proton, at KM81.5 of the Johor Baru-Mersing road.The impact of the collision flung both cars into a 3m ditch by the road.The deceased - Proton driver Md Azahar Ali Seman, 39; his wife Noraini Norzaini, 27; his older sister Zabidah Ali, 49; and Zabidah's daughter Adriana Balkis, six and granddaughter Putri Alya Batisha Mohd Fadzely, one - all died on the spot.The other passengers in the Proton - Putri Alya's mother Nadatul Isma Md Isa, 24, and Azahar's son Nazrul Haikal Md Azahar, six, sustained multiple injuries to their arms and legs.Kota Tinggi OCPD Supt Osman Mohamed Sebot said the Mercedes Benz's driver, Kasmadi Kamsan, 44, and his 43-year-old wife, whose name was not given, suffered leg injuries while their two children escaped with minor injuries."The five bodies from the Proton Wira have been sent to Kota Tinggi Hospital for post-mortem."The two survivors from the Proton Wira were also sent to the same hospital for treatment," he said.He added that Kasmadi and his wife had been sent to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatment."Kasmadi broke his right leg while his wife suffered leg fractures."We will bring him in for questioning to facilitate investigations into the matter once he is discharged," he said.Supt Osman urged anyone with information to contact the police hotline at 07-2212999 or the nearest police station.
