Guys,

I'm planning to change my car battery. Do you recommend I do it in one of BMW service centre (which I believe will be quite expensive) or can I just change at any of those third party tyre/battery shops with those aftermarket MF batteries? Appreciate your feedbacks.

I have consumed 2 original batteries since the car was new and each lasted 7-8 years. Recently tried after market MF which is much cheaper. No problems with it. Ensure that you get the right capacity with the correct location of the positive and negative terminals.
In the long run, aftermarket will be cheaper due to the significant cost saving.

Why you need to change your battery so fast?

You can check the battery condition at any battery shop.

Maybe you can try this new shop that provide on the spot battery replacement service www.thebatteryshop.my

Unker Jarance...hello, it's been a very long while
No lah, just wanted to be ready to change battery. My car already 3 years old and the service centre said its time to change battery, so a bit panic lah.

Anyways, what are the early symptoms I should look out for as an indication that the battery is due for change?

I'm trying to find out whether it is ok to change battery outside of BMW service centre, considering the fact that the f30 is very sensitive car and I'm afraid a simple battery change may mess up the electronics (I don't know, I'm just guessing). It's unlike our good old E36 where you can literally throw anything at it and it will still survive. Hahaha.

Brother Badrulabubakar,

I checked out the website you introduced. Looks good to have it handy but alas, they only do E46 and older models. Looks like E90 and above they don't do or have the experience

Early sysmptom are simple. Just leave interior light and parking light on overnight. if car can start then battery OK. if not, time to change.

btw, bmw battery can last 4 to 5 years.

ps.. have a good battery jumper ready and a spare car. just in case your car dont start.

A quick bump for this thread. I can recommend the Battery shop http://www.thebatteryshop.my if you have problems out and about. My battery failed, fortunately at home, the response was quick and the technician was prepared to be at my house with a new battery 1 hour after calling them. I delayed the fitment until I returned home later that day. I would suggest that you put their number in your phone as you never know exactly when your battery is going to quit.

I asked the technician about battery registration. I was told, and have also found on various websites, there is no need to register a new battery as long as it is the same rating as the old unit. The idea of registering a battery is to allow BMW service to know exactly how old your battery is when the codes are read. So in answer, replace battery only and test charging voltage when the car restarted. If you are stuck with a flat battery it may be worth giving them a call to get you going.

and i notice theres this AGM (approx MYR 1800) vs DIN100 (approx MYR 600)

in which the price varies alot.. so f30 can take in both?

Hi All,

My 320i E90 is needing a battery change.. Ive looked at the battery shop website..

Some questions please:
1)Why such big difference between changing at Ingrs Kayu Ara (approx 2k+) compared to rm600?

2) Quality any difference?

3) The original battery in my car is serving me slightly more than 5 years, will the Varta or Atlas serve me that long as well?

4) which shall i go for please? Varta or Atlas?

Thanks for all the help!

2k so ex now? I changed my E90 delkor DIN90 battery end of last year for sub 1k inclusive of batt registration.. was told varta slightly more expensive.. region of 1.2k if memory serves

Just to update FYI

Changed my batt today using Carput...all done within 30 minutes from my enquiry call,,,,thumbs up!!!

RM520 Din8o atlas..delivery + installation....hope it lasts beyond 12 months : )

FYI also:

INGRS pencala
spoke to their service advisor
he directed me to look for my battery in the bonnet when its actually in the boot

My goodness,,,,for goodness sake, they are handling Beamers,, not perodua...and they dont even know the difference between
a BONNET And A BOOT

I have my doubts now,,,no more INGRS Pencala for me!!!

Exercise caution when going to Pencala...caveat Emptor!!!

I am searching for whether it's alright to change the battery outdoors of service center, thinking about the truth that the f30 is an extremely sensitive vehicle and I am afraid an easy battery change may screw up the electronics (I'm not sure, I am just guessing).
