Diesel pumps are usually the ones located on the outer side, where one is most vulnerable to attacks ... According to female logic :)

And the number of diesel pump at a gas station is usually less than that of the petrol pump, maybe at a ratio of 1:5, that makes it a bit of a hassle for my wife who usually does the filling up by herself.

u get your wives to fill up themselves? HOW ???!!! TEACH ME .... she will never fill up the gas, its my job , no matter which car. >.>

My first post in this forum. I read this thread with interest. I ordered the 520d Dec'11. Loved the way the car responds and the engine noise is no big deal. I became a bit indecisive after seeing the 520i spec (and my SA says I can change the order if I want to). Anyway, after reading this post, I decided to stick with 520d (I don't have a chance to test drive 520i... Penang dealership is terrible in this sense). So, it now boils down to color, I prefer Black but that will have to wait till April. Sophisto Grey is available and I can get the car before CNY. So, Sophisto Grey it is... Can't wait. Thanks for the many opinion here.

Ah hahaha, we're in the same boat then :D

hehe, my wife likes to go shopping herself... so no fuel equals to no go... recently when she was filling up my 520d with diesel, the workers there actually stopped her to pump diesel in by pressing the emergency stop button (what is this lady doing?!)... hahahaha, she though that she forgotten to pay or what...

Ang,

which dealership did you go to?... I booked my 520d in oct'11 and they say the car can come before CNY but till today, no word and its more likely it will get pushed to feb.

ya , i have to show them the fuel cap "DIESEL" then they ok. the was 1 time i was wating for the diesel pump to be free all other petrol car look at my car 1 kind , as next to my lot there is an empty space but i queue behind 2 truck.

Finally I got my F10 today, a 520i, four months after I placed my booking for a 520d. I'll save my review of the car from an owner's point of view later, but since the title of this thread is "F10 520i vs 520d", I'll state here the reasons why I switched from "d" to "i" as they might be helpful to those who are looking for some pointers whether it's a "d" or "i" for them.

1) The car will be mainly driven by my wife and it's gonna be her daily ride. I'll drive maybe only 10% of the time. The fueling will be mainly done by my wife. So I think a petrol car is still more convenient for a lady compared to a diesel variant when it comes to fueling at a typical gas station in Malaysia. Besides, I am also trying to avoid the following scenarios:

Of course the above is irrelevant if you are a guy. I've been driving a diesel car for the past 9 years and it never bothers me when it comes to feuling. It's just that some of the stations have only diesel pumps for lorry (the pump size is bigger) and they are usually very dirty. Imagine the spilled diesel on the floor that don't evaporize. I guess the only diesel-friendly gas stations are the ones which were named "Projet" as they have diesel pump at each and every pump kiosk. I think "Projet" has become "Shell" now.

2) I'll be dirven more than I'll drive so the extra torque on the "d" probably means less significant to me and for my wife, 270Nm on the "i" is more than adequate.

3) We'll put an average of 10,000 km on the car only on a yearly basis so the higher fuel consumption on the "i" is probably ok for us.

This is my first BMW so I hope all the BMW gurus here will help me with the questions I might have regarding the F10. My first question, is the initial fuel consumption shown in the on-board computer of 35l/100km normal? The fuel tank is quarter full.

Agree totally. 520i is a excellent tai tai car exp comfort+ mode . I test the confort+ mode it really help not to have sudden accelation unlike 520d confort mode still got jump where 520i is very smooth

Ladies like petrol cars more. Definitely. Fuel consumption is normal to be high in first few weeks of buying a car. Engine not seasoned.

Untrue lah bro. Before booking the 520d, my wife was looking at:

- 957 Cayenne GTS
- 957 Cayenne Turbo
- 250 CGI
- Q5
- E9x M3
- 320d

Off all that, she chose the 520d, how does that fit into the statement that women prefers petrol? :)

35l/100km is I think the max consumption available on the OBC. That means basically the car has been idle with the engine on for awhile. Nothing to worry about, reset the consumption and drive normally to get a more accurate number over time.

The 520d is so refined, its an exception.....speaks volumes for the sound insulation of the 520d!
