Hi bros,Have any of you had this problem? Just noticed that the car stalls on a cold start (in the early morning especially after when its cool after a rainy night) when in reverse gear trying to back up. No problem on cold start going forward at all, no need to wait for warm up.

Not understand what you try to say.

Hi bro tweiboon, wht i mean is that in the early morning when i try to start the car when its cool and when i engage reverse gear to go out of parking, the engine wants to die. Going in front is no problem. When the engine is warm there isnt any problem reversing.

Did some research and found a few interesting things:

1. Need to check the MAF sensor and maybe have it cleaned.
2. Check plugs

Then moving onto (if fails)
1. Fuel filter
2. Vanos seals???
3. Ignition coils

Vacuum leak.. many locations are possible including your brake master pump, it's none return valve, damage intake manifold gasket, apart from the vacuum hoses..

Idling valve..

Plug cables..

Thanks bro, this is what I did. Brought the car in to M1 segambut and the chief mech had a lookie. He suggested I change the spark plugs as 2 of them seemed more cooked than the other 4 tho they didnt look all that bad. They also took out the airfilter, cleaned the Maf sensor, checked the idling sensor, checked the throttle opening and cleaned it too. Checked the fuel filter as well. Nothing wrong.

Hmm, we'll see how it goes tomoro morning if theres any improvements. Fingers crossed. Will keep what you said in mind tho as the next step if,....

Hi bro ,u didn't metion what model engine , very common on 318i (valvetronik) normaly can be the oil seperator beneth the intake manifold, this type of engine they are air tight evan if the dipstick come out a bit the engine will die off, pleace check first when hot it will be normal but the ideling will be low.all the best.

Hey bro, the engine model is M54 for 2001 320i J-Spec. Im sorry i dont understand what you mean by the oil separator beneath the intake manifold? Do you mean i have to check if its loose like the dipstick? I dont think my d stick is loose but ill check. Thanks.

Hi bro ,M54 ok...... than it's the idle valve could be dirty ,it can be clean using WD40. and it easy to clean if u no how to dismental it. so if can check that to.did u scan with the dignosis ( scaner) . all the best
