Hi bros here,

I noticed my 428i EO temperature can reach 120 degrees when i put it into sports mode and driven hard. That seems to be quite high and i'm abit wary if it could potentially be dangerous. In comfort mode and driven normally, temperature is abt 95 deg.

Just curious if anyone have come across this in your car?

I've not hit 120 degrees on the temp gauge on my 428i yet (haven't driven it really hard yet, still babying the car), but did notice the temp is highly variable depending on the speed... Was wondering whether it was normal - seems like your is the same. On mine, the temp also rises and drops really fast.

As for 120 degrees - my E93 335i can run anywhere from 110 to 130+ on the stock oil cooler and anywhere from 110 to 120 on a larger aftermarket oil cooler. After 4 years, all is still good (touch wood). Seems like Bmw likes their engines to run hotter - I presume for efficiency.. I was initially very concerned with the oil temp hitting above 120 regularly.

i think mine is running between 100-120 degrees but i mostly use eco pro.

DesertGoon, so I presume if you are usually on Eco Pro mode, you are not gunning it... and yet the temp goes up to 120 ?

So the temp is more speed dependent than how heavy your foot is ? It seems that way on mine.

(Just trying to see if its normal on the 428i.... my 335i was more "foot" dependent wrt the oil temp)
