my E39 engine oil got to be top up every month..each month the indicator engine oil light warning appears..after top up the next month it will appears again..why?..must i do top overhaul?.:( .

Pls check either got any leaking in ur engine ......n check either got white smoke from ur ekzos.....

what oil are you using? how long is your engine oil change interval? What's the mileage?

helloo have u all registered for AD...its just 2 weeks away

my millage 240,000km i dont know what oil my car use..cos i send to bmworld to service each time my indicator bar left 1 bar..the service is on time..and no leakage..i have check underneath the car..its clean..and no oil mark on my car porch floor..

But does your car emit white smoke? If it does, your engine is consuming engine oil. Not entirely surprising given its mileage of 240,000km.

my car year 1998 end..nup...no smoke..the engine smooth..

are you kinda high-speed driving..?
since high engine speed produce high temperature..
that makes the oil viscosity getting lower..

that "thick" oil can get past the piston ring,
get into combustion chamber,
and burn.. :D
(ada kaitan sikit ngan PCV system)

synthetic / semi synthetic oil is kinda "thick" oil..
but tolerate heat better..

how bout try to service the engine first..?
just my 68 cents.. :D

the service bar for E39 takes a long time to reach one bar n accordingly u have travelled more than 5k for normal oil or 10k for fully synthetic. U should change ur engine oil at intervals recommended by each type u use rather than the service bar

I am not sure but u normally dont need to top up unless there is leak. Better get the mechanics to check especially since the car does not give white smoke.

I think your engine is either

1. leaking while the the engine is running (while you're driving). The gasket might have some leaks.

2. burning oil.

I thought it is thin oil that has the propensity to "get past the piston ring". I also thought that synthetic and semi-synthetic oils are generally thought to be thinner than mineral oil, as opposed to being thick.

if that so...there is no problem with my car..:)

dibab,
If it has got nothing to do with leaking, gaskets.....etc. Try using 15W/50 engine oil.

he he..
my mistake.. :p

im trying to say the same thing.. :D
okeh,
just read my "thick" as thin..

thanks.. :D
