During recent service of my Year 2000 E39 525 I have changed engine oil to Shell Semi Syn. Carrefour has a good deal 5 litres pack for RM86. I bought 2. After the service at one of our regular service centre, I notice my ride has slight under power. I suspected the mechanic may have overfilled the engine oil. True enough yesterday i check the dip stick and the engine oil is way above the maximum level. I think the mechanic who use to the 4 litres pack wrongly estimate when filling it in not knowing it is 5 litres pack. i also forgot to remind him that.Question :1. Beside under power issue, will there be any other negative impact to the engine?2. Should I 'suck' out the engine oil back to the recommended level instead of drain it out? I'm not sure the workshop i went has the 'sucking' (pardon for the word i use...he he) machine. Shaiful workshop in Ipoh use that.View attachment 18882

I think normal workshop should have the sucking machine? The one that they suck from the dipstick tube...

Bro, from the picture u attached, the oil level seems ok aje..

I think thats a picture from the net, not his picture la.

bmw7833,

That pic is not take from my ride. Just to show the marking for minimum and maximum level. Currently mine is way above maximum level. Although slight under power, still manage to match Aston Martin Vantage from Sepang Circuit yesterday ...but in horrible 2 hours plus traffic jam after the race !

Suck it out bro ... BMW strongly advise not to overfill. Ask the mech how much he put in ... then take out the extra oil.

Get the excess oil drained out as soon as possible.

Having the oil level too high will cause loss of power (as the crankshaft will be "swimming" in oil), oil degradation (as the crankshaft churns the oil, foams it and breaks it down) and in the long term, may cause damage by way of hydraulic stresses on parts that wasn't designed to be dipped in oil and these end up sloshing at high speed through a thick bath of engine oil.

Any reputable workshop would have an engine oil suction machine. Try BM World in Desa Tun Razak. That's where I send my car.

It's easy la bro...no need to use sucking michine, just buang a bit from normal way when u want changed engine oil. DIY also can

How to buang a bit from normal way when want changed engine oil ? Bolih describe more details ka bro. Thanks

Open the nut underneath the engine la..but have to close it back quickly while the oil is pouring out, leaving only enough oil in the engine. Or leave less than required and top up accordingly.

Its not the easy way, its the free way (diy).

The suction method is such an easy and fast job that if your regular mech wants to charge for it then better find another mech that is not 'berkira'

Perhaps i should modify my old vacuum cleaner for the job ....he he . Just joking. McGyver gonna steal the idea. Anyway went to the workshop yesterday. Tutup pulak. Wonder why close on Monday. Will go again today. Thanks again for all the response.

p/s Have to be extra extra carefully if normally drain out way to unscrew the nut underneath. Pressure and engine oil is hot too (if you do it while engine is still hot). You may end up soaking struggling to close it back. Furthermore if you do not screw back the nut properly is may cause unnecessary leaking.
