Dear All,2 mth ago, ABS & ASC lights on. Diagnosed and changed the ABS sensor. 5 weeks ago, ASC and EML lights one. Car loss power. Mati engine and start balik, it was fine. It continued to be ok until yesterday. This time ASC & EML lights on non stop and the car loss power. Took it to Ah Keong, plugged in his computer and the faults are at throttle and DME....scary sh*t man. He's checking still.Any ideas?

check your throttle position sensor on the main throttle and asc secondary throttle body. the electrical connector might be loose causing a eml and throttle fault.

also check on the asc throttle linkages. make sure there is no slag in the connection. to test the function of the asc throttle, open your hood, monitor the asc throttle and turn your key to the run position, the asc throttle would move to the full throttle position and back. this is a automatic selfcheck everytime before the car starts.

if the electrical connectors or acs throttle cable is loose or disconnected, the asc and eml light will normally come on.

thanks leforte,

sachseelan, mine is 528i yr 2000, uk spec. my mechanic thinks its the throttle ECU faulty and not the ABS ECU or the DME. he's getting a kedai potong throttle to test. anyway, shall ask him to check all the connections and cable slags of the throttle linkages. i can recall i change the accellerator cable Oct last year.

I asked him whether a cleaning of the throttle is required. he says my throttle internals are pristine and clean. he suspects the throttle ECU.

throttle ecu? what throttle ecu? ask him to give you a part number to verify. imho either your mechanic is a noob to bmw or he is a big conman la. i think he is more the latter.

The computer reads 'Throttle Housing Assy'. He showed me the part. Its located in between the air box and the main engine itself. He's put in a used one and the car now runs better. More responsive to throttle input. He said no need to pay now. Can use the car to test the unit. After raya, if nothing goes wrong..can pay.

I highlighted that my original throttle unit looks fine, all internal, valves, seals all look fine. he said the fault was in the small 'box' (black) attached to the whole throttle body. It's where the electronics is. He showed it to me. The used unit is not too shabby either.

I think my problem is the same as our dearest forummer "publicbus" was facing. AB in the end changed the same thing after some wrong diagnoses. Anyway, still gauging the performance of my car closely before I part with the RM1,500 bil after raya.
