Hi All, I am thinking of upgrading my car to either E60 or E90 unregistered. Both looks equally good. What you guys think?

hahahaha...why u said so.? I am pretty new to BMW...I always get confused whether to get Harrier or BM. Now I decided and made my mind to go for BM. But I am confused. I am planning to get the unregistered maybe 2006 model. The price for both is almost the same range depend on the year...but i just cant make up my mind...my friends said E90 for youngsters and E60 for the 40s...

if you are big sized guy, get yourself E60... E90 is too cramped!
Your friend obviously is not a BMW driver.. who said that E60's drivers are in 40s??? I'm 30 :D

Our fren here just hit 30.. no wonder he's contemplating between e90 & e60.. hahaha...

Welcome to the 30s club bro..:top:

who told ur friend E60 was meant for uncle 40's+? i'm only 25 tis year n i've been driving E60 for 2years . E60 absolutely not uncle car! than again, thule is right. E90 is crampy. go for E60 if ur looking for spacious car

buy a 530i, unless you can find a 330i (or 335!). bottom line, buy one with the biggest engine you can afford.

Thanks guys for the replies..
Age matter is resolved now...but again
is the maintenance cost for e60 higher than e90. My personal preference is e60 but I am thinking from all the aspects..
I am a small size person and of course look young for my age... hehehehehe...not sure if ppl will think i am the owner or driver...u see all this running in my mind...
sorry i am very confused person...
also i don't know if diesel is better...quite difficult to find diesel...:106:

biggest engine higher roadtax and higher fuel consumption...am i right?

devilfan...if you can afford the downpayment, installment and the repair bills for a E60, then why not go for it? As for the type of repairs that you will encounter, maybe you could refer to the E60 owners or join them for TT. I think that they would be able to educate you on that...

It doesn't matter if others think of you as the owner or the driver right? The most important is you are happy...

The diesel technologies nowadays have improved tremendously and the engine lasts longer than a petrol engine...most petrol stations do have diesel pumps...so...strike that off your lists of worries...

bro...no need to think so much already...just buy E60 or E90...and let the car pamper you... =)

I am still looking for diesel......or else i will go for the 520...Next year surely the best time to buy ..price will drop further...can afford the downpayment and installment ....my only worry is the repairs...as u know i am looking for the unregistered and most of them only give 6 months warranty and it depends what model you buy....of course second hand car will have a lot of problems and things to repair...if the normal wear and tear it is ok...

My bro is driving E36 1996 model i think or maybe older...and since he bought the car is a never ending problem...i think he spend more to repair than the value of the car....

No offense, but do remember that there are bound to be lemons in everything, including cars. In your brother case, I think that he bought a lemon instead. You can ask other E36 drivers out there.. I'm sure that they will beg to differ on what you were saying. Personally I know someone who has been driving E36 for more than 10 years but never encountered any problems... he treated his E36 like his own wife :D

Our govt has recently switch the diesel grade to Euro 2M in which I think not clean enough compared to what other European countries are using right now. But BMW Malaysia has announced that the diesel grade is good enough to be used in BMW cars in our Boleh-Land. Otherwise they won't introduce the 3-, 5- 7-Series and X3 with diesel engines that are more expensive than those petrol counterpart for no apparent reason. What good about diesel engine is better fuel economy. However having said that, I will still go for 525 or higher as the engine displacement has more oomph! :D

When you buy unregistered cars (recond), they will normally give you 6 to 12 months warranty... AND ONLY LIMITED to the GEARBOX. Keep that in mind ok? I bought my E60 Japan specs last year which is also a recond car.. and prior to that was very worried that the E60 might be problematic. But after going through the threads in this forum, I finally decided to take the plunge by owning UDM. I searched for my ideal car from Sunway to Old Klang Road to Cheras to KL and finally bought my car in PJ... tiring and time consuming I know. But I don't wanna my car to fail on me and my hard work paid off.

Should you buy a new car then at least you are covered for 2 years but if you plan to buy a recond or secondhand car, please do these:
1) find an experienced mechanic shop to check on whether the car has been involved in accident or not.
2) BMW specialist to inspect the car thoroughly from tip to toe... normally you can request to send the car to the specialist workshop to do diagnostic on their electronic parts (thru their computer) & to check on things that cost a bomb such as suspension and engine.

All these works will cost you a few hundred ringgit but it's well worth it... at least you won't end up with a lemon :top:

Yeah dude, I totally agree with the majority here.. I am only 29 and I drive an E60.. I went through the same phase u had.. whether to get an E90 or an E60.. but because I am "over-baggaged", I chose the E60.. which is definitely a good choice..

And I guarantee you, it is the definite choice! Hahaha! (Bias!)

the facelifted E90's looks very nice... E60 is aging and too many on the road la. dont need to go for big engines... just the medium one will do like a 2.5. usually the bigger the engine the higher the maintenance cost
