I have my E60 auto light that never go 'off' even in bright daylight. It stayed lighted whenever its switch on. i brought to BMW specialist and they say its like that one and try not to use the auto light. Last week, i used a flash light from my phone and shine directly into the sensor at the exterior windscreen area for around 15 seconds. Thereafter its works perfectly.

Mine too, I thought it was meant like that.
Will try to shine the sensor using flashlight and see if I can get it to work like yours.

--update

No luck, shine it more than a minute already, nothing changed. Still lights ON eventhough on clear sky.
Maybe I did it wrong, care to share how did you do it?

The photocell that controls the headlights when the switch in auto is on the rain sensor as well.If you look closely you can see one bulb like thingy there.

Mine still functions as it shud but I leave the switch in the off position.

Astronyu, sorry for not being precise. Try shining the torch upclose to the sensor (almost touching the wind screen). Its light putting the brightest light to the sensor with the light 'on' in a covered parking. Hopefully you will see the light goes off if the sensor can sense the light from the torch.

nevermind lah herbert....this feature is overkill lah....takada pon x apa mah...

Remember to "unchecked" the DRL form the light setting in I-drive. Else, the light stays 'ON' whole day... i guess.

After "unchecked" the DRL from light setting at iDrive, my DRL is working.

Cheers

aik...how come from auto light setting suddenly DRL come into the topic....

I think what Herbert meant is after unchecked the DRL setting the autolight is working. Working means... it knows when to turn ON and OFF depend on brightness of surrounding. Because when you set the car at DRL (checked the box in i-drive), the light stays on forever....

I tried put to auto..yes it works. Turn on when entered smart tunnel but not turn off after exit the tunnel...solution - manually turn it off...haha..

Maybe its cloudy at the end of the tunnel...Ha ha... Just kidding... probably its not sensitive enough ...yet!

It turns out the reason why my lights not automatically off on daylight, was because I turned on the DRL option on idrive.
Turning that option off gives back the auto light. Success!!
