Just done mine in Wshop in PJ, oil leak problem (E46)

OIL Filter Housing Gasket (28), Engine wash(10), labor(50), Engine oil(47)

TOTAL: RM135.00

Was driving normally yesterday when i heard a very sickening sound which sounded like metal being dragged along the road. Got it checked and it appears that the driver side rear brake disc has worn out. Apparently you have to replace both rear discs although only one was badly worn out. I had it replaced at CKP Auto near BMWorld (Pandan Indah). Breakdown of costs are as follows:-

1) Rear Brake Disc X 2 RM640-00 (Original from AB)
2) Labour RM70-00

Total Damage today RM710-00

P.s. I was told by the workshop that they get a discount when they buy their parts from AB. They asked me if I wanted to buy OEM brake discs (from Germany) for about RM100 less each but I thought it was better to be safe than sorry when it comes to brakes so I asked for originals from AB.

My CNY 'present' from Auto Bavaria. The bill is as follows (and I would like feedback on the labour charges which I think is excessively high) :

Pulse generator - RM401.19
Checking function of DME - RM44.00
Replacing the pulse generator - RM11.00

Radiator pump - RM446.70
Housing coolant thermostat - RM324.34
Anti freeze - 57.28
Replacing coolant thermostat -154.00
Replacing water pump - RM198.00
Bleeding and checking cooling system - RM55.00

Fan belt - RM179.03
Replacing fan belt - RM66.00

TOTAL - RM1962. 64 out which labour cost amounted to RM558.00

My feeling is how would the consumers like us know that the amount time spent to work on our cars is not abused and done in the most efficient way.

I really think such computation of labour cost by hours can be subject to abuse. What do you guys think??

yep, doesn't make sense, because the labour cost would be higher the more incompetent and slower the worker is. i think they should agree upfront the std rates for certain jobs, such as changing water pump, based on expected hours (just like std costing). they'll have to then explain any variances to their bosses. but unfortunately, i don't think there is any incentive for them to implement this, as most of their customers are willing payers and won't even bat an eyelid, no matter how much they're charged...

I think BMW owners should take this up with AB as a group, to protect consumers' rights and for the sake of transparency.

bro,

was there anything wrong with your ride in the first place causing you to replace those parts?

To be fair to them- Yes my ride did have some problems. The only issue I have is that the method of computing labour charges is not very transparent and is subject to abuses.

Hi,

Just did the following at heritage for my E46 N42.

1. ATF Change + ATF gasket + ATF Filter + 7 litres of Esso ATF
2. Engine mounting X 2
3. Gearbox mounting X 2
4. Expansion Tank + Coolant
5. L/H Side Mirror (Heated Wide Angle)

Price: RM 2,000-00 inclusive of labour.

Gear shifts feels smoother and car does not sink/dive when shifting from P to D.

Fast service about slightly more than 2 hours to fix my car plus they have a proper waiting room with plenty of magazines and a TV to pass your time.

never liked servicing my car at heritage....

seems like they will recommend to change a lot of unnecessary parts...

engine mounting la, water tank la

Valkryie,

price seems fair, any forummers care to comment? Also, did the ATF servicing also resolve the problem you had with the "mild jerk" when gear shifts from "2" to "3"??

Was at AB Sg. Besi on Wednesday and as usual, they did a lousy job on my car. Was supposed to fix the leak in the windscreen Washer tank, they replaced the filter but still did not stop the leak.

tank34, based on my experience, AB glenmarie is better in terms of quality of work. however, they are more inflexible when it comes to giving discounts.

AB Glenmarie is the place where they want to charge me RM 700.00 for expansion tank "leak". That was months ago and water can be seen clearly in my tank. :aggressive:

But AB Segambut is OK. Decent workmanship plus the service advisor are friendlier. Was able to claim a few goodwill items (Fuel Gauge Sensor, Control Arm) from them outside the warranty period. Of course must complain a bit to them.

BMChai,

Haha I get what you mean. Totally understand your feeling. That is why it is always good to get second opinions.

They are in my opinion much better than Stuttgart at least they dun try to push you an 18 inch breyton, performance chip and super charger when all you want is to change your brake pads.

Service my car in heritage because I feel comfortable with them after they explain how they will change my ATF and why this will not affect the tranmission.

They also did some minor FOC things for me like recoding my keys, tighten undercarriage nuts and bolts.

The key recoding can't be done in smaller shops at least i dun think so. Saw them use GT one to do it. Save me another trip to AB.

Hi guys,
Had a problem with slight vibration during idling & low speed. Diagnosed. Igniton coil problem at pod 2 & 3. At first wanted to change only two coils then being advised by mechanic i changed all four coils.

Cost:
Ignition coils rm200 x 4nos
Labour charge rm40
Now car better pick-up, power and zero vibration.

Hi redbonkerz....

Not sure if it applies the same to ur case........my car (e46 318) too had similar problems......abt a year ago...........and yup changed fair bit of parts......idling sensorlah......airflow sensorlah.....thislah thatlah......and finally it still was the same so finally sent it to AB Glemarie and found that it was the knocking sensor...........and apparently it was just a contact problem so cost me RM130........but of course had to leave the car there for a week and had to chase them like hell
