Went to Bomin recently as the coolant was leaking at a few places, plus the expansion tank has cracked.

Expansion tank 280
Tank thermostat 250
Block pipe 100
Water hose 100
Engine thermostat 250
Hose clamp 8 nos 64
Radiator coolant 2 bot 90
Labour 210

The service was generally good and attentive but I think the price is a bit high. Any comments?

I did some of my cooling system maintenance back in Feb and below are the prices. A rule of thumb is first calling Bavarian Auto to check on parts prices before going over.

Did the last part of my cooling system overhaul today. Parts all bought from Bavarian Auto SS2?:

- Water pump (Saleri): RM115*
*OEM part. Material is metal composite. Saleri is Italian which OEM for Ferrari as well. Original BMW part costs RM310
- Thermostat (Engine): RM154
- Thermostat (Radiator): RM198
- BMW Coolant: RM30 per bottle (2 bottles required)
- Spritzer distilled water 9L: RM10

Recent works done at Bomin. Think I was overcharged. Couldn't find any reference in this thread. Those with previous experience please comment.

Overhaul rear differential axle:
Labour - RM100
Oil seals (side, 2pcs) - RM190
Oil seals (centre, 2pcs) RM190
O-rings (2pcs) - RM80
Axle oil - RM42

Total - RM602

Called BA this morning and price quoted as below (in blue):

Oil seals (side, 2pcs) - RM190 - P/N 33107505604 RM45 each
Oil seals (centre, 2pcs) RM190 - P/N 31507609535 RM36. Only 1 pc i/o of 2 pcs
O-rings (2pcs) - RM80 - P/N 3311752064 RM unavailable

Bro wingzee, why you overhaul the rear diff? what is the symptoms & does it help?

Bavarian Auto is a lot cheaper, I wonder why

Wow,so much difference. At least RM 250 difference for BA price.

I did axle oil change last year without changing the seals. And realized it was leaking a few months back. Does not affect the car's performance or anything at all but leaking is not a good thing hence went for the oil seals replacement/overhaul.

Some claimed axle oil is lifetime but overseas forum recommended to change. Not sure about the intervals but was told 80-100k KM.

Anyway, for those wanted to do an axle oil change, best to replace the oil seals alltogether as well. A full job shouldn't cost more than RM400. Mine was definitely overcharged.

i see.. it thought becoz got sound etc. mine got sound, was told that the gear gone d, coz can see metal dust in oil. then change to second unit, problem solved, but later found out that the secondhand rear axle isnt good either, it makes sound at speed above 160km/h, and sometimes when accelerating. so wondering, is there new set of rear axle being sold at parts shop? had enough with used part.haha

There might be refurb ones but not sure about new ones. And I don't think they are cheap. Or maybe you could look into overhauling your current unit? Not sure if the gears are serviceable.

hurm, the prob is i ve just changed the bearing ( bearing was ok previously, but changed during troubleshooting, later turned out to be the problem is with the rear axle). Could it be that the new bearing is no good. (Btw it is SKF bearing, anyone have experience?)
Shouldnt have changed the bearing!

True..i bought mine from BA Tmn Maluri Chereas.
By the way, a little advice for those who planning to DIY water pump change..please be extra careful when jack out the old water pump....need to do it slowly and parallely..otherwise the old water pump body may crack and it will become very hard to take out that :(

Textar is original OEM for BMW, just without the BMW logo. Bites but dusty. Or else, the other alternatives are Jurid and ATE.

My fronts are Textar and rears are ATE. Don't mind trying Bendix for the next change if they are good.
