FINDINGS: When engaging bottom (feet) A/C vent at above 23degC, warm air can be felt coming through the duct. However, at lower temp than 23degC, air flow is cooler but not as cool as dashboard vent. This was tested with both dashboard & bottom vent engaged, AND ONLY bottom vent engaged. Both yield same result. In some cases where the engine is not yet warmed up, this condition is not apparent.
SOLUTION: Went to see the a/c expert, Naidu, to get his opinion, quotation and maybe setting up an appointment for a wkend fix if needed. Ended up fixing it there and then. Work started at around 5:45pm.

1. Replaced Receiver Dryer i.e. gas filter?- Taiwan made ($165)
2. Replaced Heater Water Valve - Bosch BMW Original ($428)
3. Flushed, Vacuumed, and refill air-cond compressor oil/gas ($140)
4. Labor ($90)
Total Damage = $823

Service was fast and attentive. Not too sure whether there is any improve in air-cond flow or temperature (before service, i was pretty happy with aircond "coldness"). Have to give it a few more days to see any improvement. Bottom vent seems to be slightly better but still not as cold as dashboard vent. Overall, service is commendable but not sure whether the above recommendations were necessary. FYI, my car's a/c system hasn't been services since production.

NEW FINDING: upon reaching home, after half a second the engine is switched off, there is a loud sound of some sort of valve closing coming from the center of engine. Never noticed this before. Could be a some side effect of the a/c servicing? I am not yet sure but am concerned. Will monitor for the next few days of this new finding :(.

FINDINGS: This noise which always occur when the car's body is in twisting motion at slow pace i.e. going up/down a parking ramp, running over a bump at a slanted angle...etc. Found out the rear ARB clamps were slightly loose.
SOLUTION: Tighten loose clamp on rear stock ARB: RM20 (plus inspection on under carriage, bushings, engine bay, suspension etc. All found still ok hooray!)

Nice sharing, swansonsz. I may have the same issue as well. How long does it take for the whole job to complete?

Bro Wingzee, just a little bit over an hour.

Latest damage:

ZF Power Steering Pump = RM 1,050 (bought from Suan Huat, the cheapest among the shops, even BA)
Washer fluid pump = RM 80 (vemo brand OEM?, from Bomin)

Labour = RM 300 (inclusive of the bips and bops such as clamps, AT selector seal, and other washers, Bomin)

car is much more responsive now with better pick up, perhaps the older PS pump was dragging my engine down, it mad a TAK TAK sound during idle. Now car Zooms Zooms better :)

Hi,

Would like to share the cost, mine is e46 318i 2.0:

radiator= RM850
plate exp. tank= RM200
thermostat at radiator= RM270
labour charge= RM80

Total= RM1400

Please comment on the price. Is it reasonable?

Seems like radiator and thermostat are on the high side. Last week I paid rm 155 for the thermostat

The E39 power steering pump is slightly cheaper and can also be used for the E46. Direct plug and play.

Is this the LUK or ZF one, jarance? Coz I think 4cyl ones using a different one compared to 6cyl?

I also did not know. The manager at BA told me that it can used. I bought and ask the workshop to install.
Being using it for almost a year now without much problem or issue.

Yes it LUK.. and the pump is for E46/325i/2004. I was told that the pump is lower pressure output but I feel the steering feel is just nice.

Here is the picture of the part.

I also found that you dont have to purchase the full assemble for Aircon tensioner and water pump tensioner.

You can buy the idler pulley and retrofit to the tensioner pulley.
The tensioner cost about RM120 whereas the idler pulley cost about RM50. (Some saving there)

Hi Jarance,

then its not the same...N42 uses ZF thats why pricier. M54s are on LUK hence cheaper.

Thanks though :)
