Can anybody help me with this question: When your car is in manual mode, what gear does it move off from stationary? Mine move off from 2nd gear. Is this normal? I am confused...

Huh? In auto mode it moves from 2nd but in steptronic, it moves from Gear 1 (M1) if that has been selected. Not sure about Sport mode tho...

Is sport mode... it always moves off from 1st gear. In D mode, most of the time 2nd gear unless you have been whacking the car, then when you come to standstil, it downshifts all the way to 1st and waits for you to take off.

Also the shift up/down is quite fast. A quick dab on the gas will make the car drop from 2nd to 1st anyway during take off from standstill from what I noticed.

Let me elaborate in detail:
Let's say I am in manual mode in gear 5 (M5). Stopping at traffic lights. The gear automatically downshift to M2 when stationary. Moves off from M2. Is this normal or it is suppose to be M1?

:D Making myself confused with the elaboration. Hope you guys understand my Engrish .... :p

If I recall correctly, it moves from M2 if you just leave it at M5 on stationary. E46F? Is that your experience too?

Yes thats normal..it shifts to M2 if you have selected M5..when car is stationary try shifting to M5...........it will then always go to M2.

cheers

A bit late on to this thread but yes - the experience is the same.

:D well i'm glad.i thought there was something wrong with my stepbox..yes it does start from m2.though i feel the box on my 328i has that lazy feeling on part throttle.to really move i normally need to prod deeper b4 she downshifts..makes the car feel sluggish but in reality i normally leave traffic behind.strange feeling this.. :dunno:

 kinda feel like those big engined lazy american cars..

Bro's

does this mean u guys use the manual gears when driving at traffic lights/town driving?

why don't you just put it to 'D' or use 'S' for more power?

Thanks for your inputs...
