Hi guys, I need your diagnostic expertise. My E46 318i is misbehaving this week. When I start the engine in the morning, the idling rpm swings from 1000 to below 500 and dies after a few seconds.I have to keep my right foot on the pedal to keep the rpm above 1000 or so until the engine is fully warmed up.After travelling for a few km, everything would be ok, the engine could be started without problem. but at idling speed, the rpm hunts a little occasionally. So far no alarm on the dashboard.Anybody has similar problem ?Could you guys please share your expert opinions.Thank you.

bro ,
erratic idling is a classic problem for e36 & e46 but fortunately it
has a simple solution ==>> service the throttle body & ICV .
this will clear up the all the carbon deposits . you should have
a rock steady idling after the service .

good luck ! :top:

try check your vacum valve throttle. Just happen similiar case to my car.
Worth to check first...g.luck

this problem can b cause by vacume hose, ICV, fuel pump, etc. next time when it happen, depress your gas pedal to 3000rpm and release it, most likely the engine wont die off instead of depressing and hold at 1000rpm until the engine is warmup. I would recommend you to try cleaning the idling control valve (ICV) first, coz its fast and free, big possibility is the ICV looking at your situation
