Still waiting for a part to arrive.. But have been refreshing/reading on how to start the car without the auto trans so there would be no drama on the swap day. Expected swap day is next week weekday.

Also cleaning and regreasing the shifter pivot.
 
Some work done today is more preparation for the swap. The automatic shifter panel was removed

While inspecting the connection, noticed a cable that run from the shifter to steering column. This is supposed to only allow shifting when the key is turned. Also, key wont be able to be removed without this cable. Will need to figure out how to handle this.

Reading a bit more on clutch operation, since mine is EWS 3.3 there won't be a connection from clutch module to EWS but only to DME. Quoting source (http://www.unofficialbmw.com/images/BMW_EWS.pdf)

Transmission Range Selection Input
With the introduction of the SKE type connectors on Transmission Control Modules the
direct input from the Transmission Range Selector Switch is eliminated. The input for range
selection is now received from the AGS Control Module.
On manual transmission vehicles clutch status is input directly into the DME.

Bro, hopefully everything goes as planned. Yes do let me know when you are around, haven't had nasi kandar for awhile..

By the way, the first post was updated with error message from EGS and other fixes.

But just curious, do u need to go to Puspakom after u do an auto to manual conversion?

Bro. not sure about the error too. A quick search yields this document http://www.bmwtech.ru/pdf/e46/ST034/12 Automatic Transmission Internet.pdf

see page 30, 146 - CAN engine torque signal

looks like a CAN bus communication mismatch between actual torque received and signaled through the bus. I think, I don't know really. Any other error messages?

CAN bus is the communication network and protocol where essential modules in the car share information between each other. These modules are DME, EGS, IKE and ABS/DSC.

Similar but less info is also available on the K/I-bus to be used by less critical modules.
 
Bro, the shorting of the pin EGS pin 2 and 8 is like starting the car in P mode i think. is the auto ecu still in there? i think the engine ecu will need a config to know that its a manual gearbox.

Bro, exactly this is cheating the EGS like the gearbox is there. Yes the auto ecu (EGS/AGS/TCU) still there. Indeed the DME, IKE and EWS need to be programmed for manual, this can be done outside the workshop but at least the actual swap is done and the car is moving. The car is pretty confused now that the EGS is sensing all sorts of failure in the gearbox but still moving. Thanks.
