aiyoh planta....

wanna gimme heart attack aarr??

hehehe.....

Astroboy,

1st owner of jap recon with low mileage can contribute aarr?

Yes u can if u are very sure you r still on LifeTime fluid. I want to see 2 things:

1. 25k km oil change interval to contribute sludge. So when u collected ur ride, ur engine must be in shinny metal color internally, no sludge and follow the 25k oil change intervals, use Fully Synthetic, no additive and now u have sludge. Can u prove this? and been using original BMW oil filter.

2. LifeTime fluid causing problem. U must be sure u r still on LifeTime fluid, no replacement whatsoever and now u have problem. Prove this.

I am not talking about isolated case. I want to see statistic of reasonable sampling size.

good picture and info plata, keep up the good post for other part as well

the engine bay looks more like 200k on it..even the exterior is filthy..maybe he kena con? somebody adjust the meter when sold to him?

i own same 02 car and mine is super clean..why ar?

does it have something to do with ckd/cbu? mine is south african spec, and so far it's been pretty good to me.

the biggest repair job was the asc/dsc computer which was 4k. i only do oil change at 25k..or more like 20k lah

Planta, Astroboy & Guru,
Yes, there were many views on whether to change the engine oil at 10k, 20k or 25k even though the are still many bars left on the service indicator. Many has argued that the brand and its vicosity make the difference even though it's fully synthetic!

The same goes for the ATF oil, life time or otherwise. Based on personal and many other owners' experiences of various series, it's best to change engine oil between 10-15k and ATF oil every 50k. These are not big ticket items, so why risk, yes?

Cheers

Like what Jerman said,

Why we save on engine oil change? It is not expensive and it is good preventive measure.

Mobil 1 Fully Syn is RM138 only so I vote for 10K service interval

There are other engine oil such as Bardahl and Royal Purple which are as good and meet SL or SM standard but cost less then RM100 per 4 liters for fully syn. I will go for 5000km interval with such engine oil

i think if the german fellas at the workshop say change when then I change lah..after all this not proton right? IF proton says something maybe i'll second guess it..but BMW been around long time and I'm pretty sure they know what they talking about.
Gear oil is lifetime?..i'll take their word for it.. i takut if we try to change or something then rosak..maybe when we go change it they put cap ayam then make spoil how?
enjin oil..put the most mahal one and top up till you reach 20-25,000 kms lah.. german fellas can't be wrong la..if they say service at 25,000 kms then i think they factor in safety net of 5,000 kms..in actual fact you can service/oil change at 30,000 also can..

besides..i don't really have the time to lepak at the workshop also..and i'll never leave my car even tho I trust my mech 100%

what bro planta is totally right.i totally agree cause i had spent the 25k for the overhaul for my car.the problem is the heat range is higher than normal, the climate,n the oil change interval.

i believe that had cost mine to kaput..one more thing..my advise is for this car for every oil change pls use the 4 litre flushing oil like AB does b4 putting the new oil..this could be another reason why this happen.cause the reamaing long interval oil change turn to be sludge..n i notice also the design of the oil pan will not drain all the oil from the drain nut..

Fully agreed with McFir7, flushing is encouraged but I was told, one flushing for every 2 oil changes will be adequate!:top:

just to share with you guys .. the engine pictured earlier had to be top overhauled as the engine oil was missing about 1.5 liter every 3 days... the odd thing was that there was no leaking and no white smoke ... we suspect the fume was filtered by the catalytic converter.

I was not present when they did the top overhaul but according to my friend a few valve seal was worned out plus due to the extreme dirt .. a few air holes in the engine head were blocked. They had to drill the hardened black dirt to clean it... I wish I was there to experience fixing this and taking picture of this and share in this forum... so... change you engine oil regularly guys...

planta bro, how do you recommend we check for sludge? just pop the cap and look through there? are there any other indicators that sludge is mounting?

Good job planta. Next time i see you i will show you how to remove the sludge from in side the engine. Very the easy.

Hi Guru, i believe you can not see much when you pop the cap, you need to remove the valve cover to see how much dirt you have in your engine head. If your car is an M43, M52 and M50 engine, you can check the sludge by detaching the oil filter housing. If it is N42, we can see much when we detach the oil filter housing coz it is at the top of the engine.

May be we can check with Red Baron, he knows the best how to check for the sludge.

Bro Planta,
Good info for us, at least we learn something to more caring with our bimmer.
Just want to ask, what is the different between ATF red and yellowish colour. Some people said the red colour is better than the yellowish. I'm using the red colour (my bimmer is E46 1.9 4-speed). Servive my car last week.

It is a right choice?

Hi Kayz

You do not choose your ATF by color. It is supposed to be by your gearbox spec.

Red color is DEXTRON III used for 4HP transmission. (4 speed)
Yellowish color is ZF 5HP ATF for 5HP GM and ZF transmission.
If your car is 1.9 4 speed, then you should use DextronIII. Are you sure that your car is 4 speed and not 5 speed transmission?

If you use the wrong ATF... you better change it ...not just change... totally remove it.. like 99%....or you might say bye bye to your transmission....soon.
