Dear bros, gurus & sifus....

Considering it will be my first, really in deep dilemma, either to get a 2003/2004 E46 or 2005/2006 E60. I surveyed around for months on these two, and what i found :

1) 2003/2004 E46 say 318/325 - around RM36K as at Feb 2016
2) 2005/2006 E60 say 520/525 - around RM55K same time also

For E46, i can pay cash.....but considering for a more spacious and newer version, E60 is better choice. But i need to fork out another RM20K........(these days, RM20K is really a LOT bro...... :afraid: ).

Its either i settled E46 and saved RM20K, or i close 2 eyes and settled for E60...

As i do not own any of both before, its quite hard to do pros and cons............really need bros, gurus & sifus to assist me to decide.......seriously appreciated it.

Btw, if any bros have any both models considering to let go, i will obviously look into it.

Many thanks..... :)

Whats your priority? Will size ever be a consideration? Maintenance-wise the E60 could potentially cost more due to presence of more electronics.

Hi bro wingzee,

Size might be about 40%-50% priority, as currently im having a 7-seater which i intend to keep it for long.

Main purpose is to get an alternate car, as currently the 7-seater did much of the day-to-day work traveling, plus distant outstation-goings, hometown & so forth. Though its a japanese made, but as it is a 4WD type, she drinks a lot petrol more than i drink. And although the maintenance is considerably not that expensive, but i sent her for service at least once in a quarter, if more outstations, can get in every 2 mths.

Bro Wingzee, how significant are the maintenance works in RM value for 13 yo E46 vs 10 yo E60? and i suppose both have efficient petrol consumption? If not perhaps E60 slightly better?

TQVM bro.....

TQVM bro.....
Depending on the cc but fc-wise generally you are looking at avg 10 to 11L 100km.

Maintenance-wise perhaps the E60 you are looking about 20-30% more. Bear in mind both cars are old hence be mindful of the condition. Get one preferably with full maintenance records.

Hi bro wingzee,

Really appreciated ur advise.... :proud:

Btw, i think im gonna made my choice. Just viewed a 2005 E60 525 at Danau Kota. Engine sound not noisy, interior looks well maintain, exterior looks also ok. Once my foremen checked and said ok.......and after take into consideration of ur advise......will definitely gonna cashout for it....

Many2 thanks ya bro wingzee.....

:proud: :proud: :proud:

Hi Bro Wingzee,

Just talk to a fren.......that, E60 525's gear box is normally having problems....is this true? :stupido3:

If its true....normally how much costs estimated to change......

Alrite....noted that bro BiMmEr78...

Btw, where is good workshop for repair, services & maintenance around shah alam or sg buloh?

Thx bro...

E60 & E90 share the same auto gear box i.e. ZF6HP19. Common failure as reported is the "infamous" gear slam/jerk. The fault lies with the 7 pieces solenoids located at the mechatronics module. Cost to replace this 7 pieces is about RM 2.5k inclusive of labor charges.

Hi Herbert,

Really appreciated for your notes. Will definitely keep in this as and when it happens.....

Many thanks bro... :67:

Just a few words of caution.....many workshops do not have the expertise to overhaul auto gearbox. They would usually recommend you to get a used GB from chop shop coz it is less hassle and more profitable. Getting a used GB is a no no for me coz the condition of the said GB is unknown even though the chop shop/workshop would tell you that the used GB came from a low mileage Jap/UK car.
