dude

if you are driving a 5, I am certain that your rim size is above 17 inches correct? Tyre noise is something you have to get use to for big tyres.

I am running on Goodyear Eagle F1 18 inches 245/45/18. A little noisy but great grip in the dry and wet. u know how it has been raining recently. Good grip in the wet is most important for me.

Cheers!!

Mate,

Am running on ori 16" rims at the moment but the plan is to change it sooner or later to 17" or 18" (still wandering which would be better - 17" or 18"???).

Have you faced any prob with your 18" rims running into pot holes????...Roads in KL suckssssssss...

I have got a rough idea what rims I want to go for but the tyre choices is something I want to make up my mind now thru some suggestions.

Yes I agree with you on the noise level with big tyres. That's why am planning to sound proof the car...at least can reduce to certain level. There's a big car mod project coming up in the next 2 weeks...which means $$$....

Thanks bro for your advice...

go for 18's man. 17's are way too small. Pot holes are something which you have to be constantly looking out for. Regardless if you are running 14 , 15 or 18 inches. One big one and its all gone!!

The noise level in the cabin on 18's is ok. Remeber the sound proofing on the 5 is excellent unless you are a bat or something.

My 5 cents worth. Go for 18's,

Thanks mate...I will be on the look out for the 18" of my choice and the tyres soon.

BUt you are right I am bat...sometimes all this small noise irritates more than anything...so raise the AC level and they are gone...hahaha

Anyway appreciate.

same here. When I hear any funny noises, I just turn the radio up. If we dont hear noises, means less $$ spent.heeh

Good luck on the rims and tyres.

gshanmg,

I'm running on 18" PS2, with standard coil+SACHS shocks.
Ride is solid, and comfy enough for my daily KL grinds (Jalan Ampang, Sultan Ismail, Jalan Raja Laut, Raja Abdullah..).

I recently had a puncture on my rear tyre, satay stick poked through between sidewall and contact surface (strange...)
Scouting around, most of them advised me to stick to PS2.
So, can't comment much on other tyres.
For info, it's RM 1250 a piece - bloody expensive! But it gives you ultimate confidence during cornering and when you want 'play-play' on B-roads.

Between 17" and 18"... due to the prices of 18" tyres, I'm seriously considering 17" !!!!

AstroCreep,

Oh man...I thought it would be just below 1K but now need to scoop out additional for the 18"...getting hot ready...need to find a balance now...want to shop around for some good deals...or might need to change to local tyres...

Thanks for the suggestion bro...

18" below 1k pun ada... but not PS2 or CSC3 lor...
If not mistaken, they start from 650 or 700, reliable brands such as Falken, Silverstone, etc... at least they're not cap 'palang' or cap 'ayam'.
Some say they're noisy la, slippery la, I can't confirm for sure as I never tried them.

Tyres are expensive, so I don't think one person can give you a good comparison over multiple different brands... nobody changes tyres like changing underwear la bro!

By the way, it's the only contact between your car and the road... remember that especially if you plan to push the car hard... then decide which rubber you want to wrap your new set of 18" wheels with!!!

Good Luck!! Follow you instincts!!

Just to share my 2 bits, I've had Yokohama ES100 stay away - very very very noisy and don't last that long, Michelin PS2 damn good grip wet and dry and didn't find them noisy at all lasted twice as long as the Yokos. Now I'm on Toyo TR1s, pretty grippy but it took ahwile to bed in so I suspect it will last a bit longer. Had the Toyols for 8K now and noise is not a problem I find no diff from the PS2. Not as confidence inspiring as PS2 but for the price OK lah. I'm on 17s 235 front 255 rear.

Yep...need to narrow down the scope and decide based on the requirement and most importantly the lui available.

Been using Conti 225 X 55 on standard 16inch on my 523 2k. So far Im happy no noise and no sign of giving way (ofcourse never pushed very hard - not F1 driver) now about 4000k on it. Price 420/pc in Klang.:)

Pretty sure the price you paid is reasonable as the one I checked out in Puchong was 500/pc...not yet bargain lah..just scoping survey first.

Helps if you could send me the shop add.

Thanks.

Yeah mate just realized there is another thread on the tyre subject and you did mention on the T1R.
At the moment considering CSC2 but don;t mind looking at the T1R.
Do you have any idea what the price like for the T1R?

Thanks bro.

Hi i got 1pc of Conti sport contact2 225/55 R16(Germany made) letting go, got 90% thread left. Was used as a spare tyre on my dad's previous ride. If interested pm me, i'm letting go cheap cheap ehhehe :D

Sifus,

I just checked on the CSC2 tyre cost for 225/55/95V (made in Germany)...from 2 x shops the cheapest being RM650 in Puchong. Is this cost OK?
One of the shops quoted CC1 tyre for the same size at RM480...

Please advise.

Thanks.

Just changed my tyres to Conti Premium Contact 2 yesterday. The shop in Sunway (HupShun) quoted me RM620 per piece. Cheapest deal I have come across so far. May be can get cheaper in Kapar but didn;t take the time to survey that area.
Can feel the diff. Plan to ride on for a few days before testing the grip.

oh... just found out this forum..
i'm currently using yokohama tyres.... its really great..
