I recently changed both my power steering hose. My previous hose did not physically leak or dripping but it got the wet and shiny look. After changing to a new set and new clips, and approximately a week later the "wet look" came again. I read somewhere that this is a common problem for E39. Anyone experience this before?

make you have eradicate this proble.if not the next to go is the power steering pump..and that is costly abt RM1k...

Before I say anything, does your e39 use steering rack or recirc ball? My e34 with the recirc ball had this problem when I went to change the power steering hose. The steering box was also leaking...so had the mech service the box by taking it apart completely and putting it back. There is no leak and no wrekk sound when turning the steering on idle. Cheers. Abang Funfer,

you spent few hundred ringgit for the hoses but do you change the filter ?, which will cost you less than RM100. The filter is also known as the power steering oil resevoir. People normally forgot about this and never change this filter/resevoir.

The filter plus the reservoir costs appox USD40 in the states. Can you confirm the price again. Are you sure we can buy just the filter alone without the reservoir?

I also experience the same thing but not all the time. It's more like "tick-tick" sound and it's hardly audible.

Bro, the reservoir is actually the filter. last I changed mine 18 months ago cost me RM60. Dont know about the price now.

RM60 is dirt cheap. The price I quoted just now was just the reservoir, without the cap, rubber seal and holder.

I experienced that"whooooosh" during a full turn. But not with my current ride. It was with my previous ride, Ford Escape. The whole reservoir went empty while descending to Jelapang toll. My rear window was badly smeared with power steering oil and rear visibilty was really poor. The steering was getting heavier and heavier and I thought one of the tyres must have punctured and losing air at a slow rate. After the toll booth, I opened my bonnet and I found that the reservoir was empty. I managed to continue to KL, but it was really difficult to manouvre at low speeds. It cost me RM700 to repair the whole thing. I believe the "whoooosh" sound at a full turn was an indication that air had entered the system. Not a good sign.

To share, the current reservoir is RM 68 from Bavarian Auto, the hoses (2) from the reservoir is RM 75 and RM 90.
