hi guys...really need ur help... i wondering how much does it cost for a year 99 5 series bimmer (e39)... and i'm a bit confuse about the single and double vanos thingy... does both model (520i and 525i for the year 99) have double vanos???how do identify single/double vanos  and of course... know anybody selling their e39... ??? do drop me a message... ;) thanx

Dun mean to hijack but a Used E39 530i can be a nice replacement for my E46 325i. How much for one less than 2 years old?

JPB, I got a quote for a E39 530i 2 years old from datuk owner a few months back - RM 265K but IMHO the e39 design is obsolete already...

Faezal, for UK spec car, double vanos starts from year 1998. typically you will find 520i, 523i and 528i models. The 520i comes with 150BHp, 523i comes with 172Bhp while the 528i comes with 193BHp. The 520i is actually a 2.2L engine, 523i = 2.5L and 528i = 2.8L.

The advantage of the Double Vanos is that you will be able to maximize power and ecomony from low to high rpms...

From year 2002 onwards in MAL, the 520i gets a 2.2L 170Bhp engine, while the 525i gets a 2.5L 192Bhp engine and the 530i gets a 3.0L 230+Bhp engine....

Hope this helps..

Thanks WL. Brudder, where have U been? Anyways, the 1998 E39 520i is still a 2.0 6-cycl-in-line with 150 bhp. It only went up 2.2L in 2002. Judging from your knowledge of 530i prices, are you contemplating this too? Chester used to have an E39 525i and later an E46 325i. He felt that the 325i's performance far exceeded the 525i in terms of take-off, so this suggests that for those with 325i, moving up to similar engined 5er could lead to performance deficiency. Hence, checking on E39 530i. Its design is dated but it's still cheaper than new E90 (just guessing!) and it's a 5er with great abilities!

JPB, i am Bz these days - - i was considering the e39 530i but after much consideration, i have now set my eyez on the e60 530i or the e90 330i .... :p

faeizal, the prices depends on whether it is a unregistred car or a used car and the model. Typically, it would be cheaper if it is a used registered car. The rule of the thumb is that for unreg cars from UK / Japan, it should cost 10 - 20K more..

265k is a little too much. Lets not forget AB was selling that car less than 265k as they were trying to clear stock before the E60 was launched. Similarly the 530i were less than 300k (cant confirm). I knew they sold out the 530i and 525i, as some sales girl from AB Sg. Besi kept calling me and tried convincing me to get the 520i :D :) :) And all these cars came equipped with the M tech bodykits and other goodies like sun blinds and etc..

Faeizal,

Kindly pm me if ur interested.

for this, the price should be in the region of 155k - 160k for 523i.. anything higher, you'd be paying too much..

Wondering what is the market price for E39. 525i 97 model? Heard that it is a double vanos, anybody can cfm this?

I dont think the 525i was introduce till '99.

If anyone is trying to sell you a '97 525, think you are getting robbed....
