It's good to know.... i dont see much difference in price for both either. for e39 which model year or cc to consider? :D

Go for 2001 to 2003 model (M54 engine). 525i is an all-rounder. 530i is the signature dish, good for high speed highway cruisin'. Whichever model you choose, you can't go wrong.

I love this topic.:)

Glad to know E39 is 'budget friendlier' compared to the E46..

Last week I was looking around to trade in my E39 for an E46 but due to a 'humiliating' trade-in value offered by the dealer, I decided to keep the 523i..

Lucky didn't trade-in for the E46..

But I still feel my E39 maintenance bills are a bit on the high side..

I recently sent the car for normal servicing + some minor repairs and the invoice came to RM1k! the repair was something to do with the gasket or something.. can't remember..

It's a 1999 523i so suppose the age has started to show.. :)

RahimRad,
Not that bad, right? Fully syn. engine oil 6.5 litre plus filter & labour will hit almost RM 500, already......;)

Well, i think that's ok as long the car does not breakdown often. i dont paying more for something that can last. Anyway still deciding btw E39 or W208 (clk).

i have 2 e46s, 03 and 04 makes...so far so good. also depends on luck....i know someone who'd spent min RM15k on his e39 barely a year after getting it.

i got no major issues on my E46...only wear and tear parts especially all those bushes. Expansion tank replace it at interval of 60k km...u shouldn't have any problem after that. But i miss E36 so much:(
