E39 5HP-19 Gear Box Problem.

Hi, having a gearbox problem this morning. Very hard to move from standstill, but continue run at 3rd gear. Brought to mech for diagnos the problem and diagnos report printed out as:Code 048 Conv. lockup clutch, excessive slip (P0740).Anybody who had experienced this before, pls advise... Try to ask mech to change ATF and filter first but been advised by him to repair or change the gearbox.Pls helllpp...

never encountered on my e39 but I would insist on an ATF n filter change first.
always best to do cheaper alternatives.if it works....many many RM saved.if not...well...the joy of owning a UDM.gud lak bro.......

Sounds like the torque converter gone.

I had repaired mine in Sri Gombak, batu caves, complete overhaul of the gearbox n torque converter with 6 months warranty for about RM5k.

Its one of those guys which advertises with bunting at traffic lights, turned out to be my neighbour.

If you go to other places its 7-8k
