Hi ALL,Recently, my UDM (e36, 325i, auto) seems to slam into gear while shifting up and sometimes down (most probably to or from 2nd gear). The problem is, this event will only happen once, through out the driving and will only repeat (intermittence) after I shut down the engine and restart. My mechanic could not diagnose this, as this problem is intermittence. Check speed sensor, atf level (no leaks etc), mounting etc, everything is OK.I have overhauled my gearbox 2-years back and will try everything else before taking it apart again.Any ideas or suggestions from the forummers are most welcome. Thanks in advance. GM or ZF??? but both overrated giaboks

hmm..this happened to my box... then 2 mths down the road, it went into limp-home-mode and i drove at 20kph for 25 kms all the way to the shop..

box died..

but the symptoms were very similar. it occured intermittenly at first. almost no pattern to it. it stops when i stop the car, and engage the REVERSE gear, and reverse it a little. then its ok..stops slamming into gear..

but finally... the light came on, and thats it...:(

..i'm no help here, but i've seen various threads of successful rescues of such a failing box by knowledgeable members...

Thanks for the feedback. It is a GM box. Well, so sad that I have to take it apart again.

The death of the gearbox has become apparent. I finally see the light (gearbox fault indicator). Anyone can suggest any good 'gearbox' workshop, preferably around kelang valley/ ampang?

refer to the list of workshops that the forumers visit..

regards.

i had that problem once, and it seems to cure itself. Nevertheless, took it to workshop, but they could not find anything wrong with it.

But, recently, i had problem starting the engine - the rev just drop until the engine dies off. Twice i tried, and the gearbox alarm indicator came on. Left the car alone for some time, started again and it's OK. This has happened maybe 3 time within the last couple of month. So, maybe it is not a gearbox problem after all. Have not bring it to workshop, but will have to do so real soon.

My Mech change the Speed Sensor today, and seems to be OK. He mentioned that the sensor might missed some pulses and indirectly sending incorrect data to the on-board TCU.

Will update if this is the solution..
