Okay, so I've been hunting for a auto-manual tranny conversion package for my '97 328i (E36), and i was made an offer for the following parts. 1. Gearbox (getrag 220) 2. Gearbox mount 3. Prop Shaft 4. Pedal Box 5. Master Cylinder 6. Slave Cylinder 7. Fluid Line 8. Shifter & Linkage 9. Bolts & Nut 10. Flywheels 11. Clutch Kit 12. Clutch Line 13. Coupling/GuiboCan any Sifus help me out, and let me know if this will be enough to perform my conversion, or if i will need any additional parts? Any advice would be greatly appreciated :/

Calling Iceman 68 and V-Man. In general you need to check and confirm if the gearbox donor was from a 325/328 or from 318/320 coz the fitment slightly different. Rest Iceman and V-man more familiar.

gear console plastic ring cover
shift boot
shift knob
rear differential - 2.93 / 3.15
flywheel - 8.5 / 9.0 inch
misc on the box depending on it's wear and tear - bearings, clips, rubbers, etc..

and if you're going on a M20 Single Mass flywheel route, here are some findings to compare with >>

My findings:
- Both m20 single mass and m50 double mass has the same diameter 228mm (318i came with smaller flywheel)
- Both M52 328i and M3 has 240mm on the flywheel.
- Stock dual mass flywheel = ~11 KG (just the flywheel)
- M20 flywheel (single mass) = ~7 KG (just the flywheel)
- m20 clutch kits are cheaper compared to M50 kits (pressure plate, clutch etc)
- M20 starter motor (the M50 starter will not mesh with an M20 flywheel)
- E21 323i release bearing (30mm height) - Reduces the rattle but its freaking expensive.
- M20 flywheel bolts as the M50 items are too long (new pressure plate bolts too)
- M20 flywheel machined to fit the M52. This involves removing a minimum of 4mm up to 10mm
- Single mass gear rattle at idle. This was probably my biggest concern about it but the perks are more fun to have :p

Owh ya, another cheap upgrade while you at it. A definite not to miss and fun to have short shifter !

>>
Budget SSK Z3M Shifter – Part# 25117527254>>

New Z3M pre bent shift lever from Understeer - shortens throw by 35% over stock 328 or M3

OEM shift carrier reused

new UUC delrin shift carrier bushings

new carrier clip (aka "bitch clip")

new ball cup bushing for lever

nylon washers

fastening clips for selector rod

The outcome = Orgasm and you may lead a drag by 0.002 secs :p Have fun !

lost drag race to 325 and 320d last night, maybe this could help.

Don't get the getrag 220. Go for a zf 5 speed. There's a reason bmw used the zf on a 328i.

Or you can always opt for a e46 non M 6 speed box. Hehe

If you're really keen, pm me. I promise I will be gentle and use lots of ghee to make is nice and smooth :)
