folks, over the lifetime of e34 ownership have you come across little gems & secrets like how to unlock yourself if the battery is flat..i would like to start a list rolling from the collective knowledge we have in this forum

if I tell u, I have to kill u !!! :aggressive:

But frankly, dun know wor ... :D

Anybody; Al, puss, naza2, harterGay (oppss E30 dun qualify .. this one, I am the one who taught u, ok !)

I know a few (after having my lock freezing on me) unlocking measures. Some are possible to use for a flat batt scenario and you're outside the car.

a. If unable to unlock door (master locking also gone gaga). Knocking on the base of the rear passenger side (left side) floor from the outside while working on the master unlock key turns. This knocking (may break the underfloor of the car) may re-seat the ecu under the rear seat.

b. Basically the boot lock is a manual lock and does rely on electrics ('cept to trigger the door locks from it). If you have a flat its possible to open the boot and wire up 12v to the boot light.

c. To open the hood (if you really have a flat and need to change the battery anyway but cannot open the hood from the outside to jump the lock). Use a long flat edge screwdriver. Look through the front grille of the car and you can locate the release catch for the hood (should be around the front left side - its the passeger side again). You can pop it out from there. If you can do this and have a full 12v batt with you, need not do step b.

Cheers.

got this official/proper technique where you turn key a bit, pull door handle a bit, turn key a bit more, something like that... must check manual. lupa already... first time learn when saw AAM feller doing. kena charge for nothing. lanciao...

from the Owner's "Handbook" (local/UK version):

... in the event of failure of the electrical system (at passenger's door only);
Opening: lift the handle plate, turn the key in the opening direction beyond the pressure point.
To close again: turn the key beyond the central locking pressure point.

from the Owner's "Manual" (US version):

... in the event of an electrical system failure (i.e. discharged battery), they vehical may still be unlocked or locked by turning the key to unlock or double lock position.

does that mean it only works at passenger's door? don't know... must try
does that mean no such worries on US cars? don't know... don't care
does it work on e36? also don't know... don't have e36 handbook/manual...

i use a wire hanger to unlock it or break the window... heheh. jk.

yeah, what erica said. it works.

calling erica 34........

Looks like you have a copy of e34's owner handbook & manual??? Can I make a copy??

5 series,

sure thing. PM me to arrange.

just don't let some people find out... if not they lecture u about copyright man! must order la, wait for shipment la bcos send from germany, but when collect, alamak! photocopy one... i say why u never tell me? they say u should know what... copyrighted material cannot simply photocopy...

if your windows are open, you can close all of them by shutting all doors and turning the key to lock position, and hold.the windows will roll up one side followed by the other.

the intermittent wiper speed can be adjusted.

1. to set,put to pos 1 and back.
2. from this position, count the duration you want the intermittent
speed to work.(max is 20 seconds intermittent i think)
3. flip it back to pos 1

intermittent wiper speed is set

WOW.. I didn't know that!! Way cool.

Btw.. did you notice that even on the E34, the wiper speed is senstive to stops - i.e. if you stop the car the wiper on intermitant and slow wipes .. .slows down... heh heh.. cool

Ah! I see, all talking about the master lock/unlock.

The suggestions I gave were if the master lock/unlock fails (can be due to faulty ecu - under rear passenger seat).

Under more cia-lat situations; (not for faint hearted).
I remember seeing a method of bypassing the door lock/power window ecu as well, but it involves burning one of the fuses while shorting a live line from the batt to one of the connector in the fuse box OR directly to the engine mgnt harness in the engine bay. The car's electrics will all be live/active, but the starter is not engaged. At this point, the master unlock method can be tried again. If anyone has the exact details, do share as I am fuzzy abit with this method.

cheers.
