folks, my car is a 520i and i have a set of 525i caliper+disc sitting around. now that my front disc has worn to a lip - i'm planning to fit the 525i parts. the caliper consist of 2 parts: - (1) the one holding the piston body - (2) the other [sliding] portion my 525i part (1) is not as good as my old 520i (1). so i was wondering whether can i mix 520i part (1) with 525i part (2) - will it work?

not really. let me try again. every caliper [whether 520 or 525] has 2 parts: part (1) one which house the piston part (2) one which is like a back plate that slides against (1) i want to know whether part (1) from a 520i caliper set can be connected with part (2) from a 525i caliper set.

You mean Part 2 or Part 3 not good? What kind of not good u mean? Pictures?

The ventilated disc on 525i is thicker. i don't think you can fit the disc with mix and match caliper housing and brake carrier since the part numbers are totally different.

Try searching the parts number at www.realoem.com

520i:
02 Caliper housing left ATE 1 34111160361
02 CALIPER HOUSING RIGHT ATE 1 34111160362
03 BRAKE CARRIER ATE 2 34111160360

525i:
02 Caliper housing left ATE 1 34111160367
02 CALIPER HOUSING RIGHT ATE 1 34111160368
03 BRAKE CARRIER ATE 2 34111160366
