Yup .. it happens to me ...

Sometimes, the car is just plain smooth ..
In some other day, suck mannnn ..
The engine is not responsive, suspension tends to float .. damn .. I hate those days ...

I told my mechanics about it .. They said ' Itu perasaan je bang ... '

Problem still not solved .... for the last 9 yrs !
I've got that too mate! Like we kena bad hair day, our UDM have its bad days too i guess.. :)..

Sometimes i noticed it happens whe i do not wait for the pre-ignition check to complete, fuyooo car can jerk somemore! Learned it the hard way.

My car is even more tempermental.

She is ok in the mornings, and afternoons. But...

If u shut her down, then light her up again in less than 2 minutes, she will complain like hell, engine vibrates with loud noises (like not enuff fuel), and totally refuses to move. Yr heart will stop coz its like the engine has seized!!!

Happend to me last nite, stopped the car for dinner at hawker, then 2 minutes later found a prime spot. Quickly ran to my car, while my companion was "booking" the spot, started her and she complained like hell was about to freeze over. Coaxed her two times, simply refused, just coughing coughing. Finally gave up, and walked futher.

After dinner (40mins later), she purrs to life like the pussy she usually is...

Hmmm...

smooth as silk - nite driving or rainy days

rough and erratic (not erotic lah :hmmph: ) - hot day .. like now ...

plus I m using KONI ... makes it even tempremental ...

Like what pussy ( :p ) said .. whack the blardy car once in a while ....
to clear the soots n carbon ...

I do that every weekend ...

and ended up paying :getyourfactsright:

BMW engines are programmed to run hotter than other engines. But the funny thing is that they don't tolerate heat underhood. So the only way we can enjoy our cars is when it's cool outside or how about this? Airscoop! Airscoop anyone? Or gills anyone? It can make a huge difference in underhood temperatures I tell you!

By the way, my engine now makes that tappet like noise for longer durations when it gets hot. Used to be about 1 second of rickety tickety tick but now I can make it rickety tickety tickety tick for about 5 seconds if I hold the throttle at about 1,800RPM under load. And only when hot. UDM? I'm beginning to think otherwise :dunno:

Currently, customizing an air scoop ...

bcoz bcoz .. enjin will run hotter after this :nyehehe:

Wanna share why your engine will be running hotter? Hotter cams? Turbocharging? V8? Aiyoo! Tell lah... :nyehehe:

I dun tell one ...

Bila sudah siap pasang, I will show it ...

If tell aa .. tak jadi malu wor ...

Sabar aaaa .....

OK, you siap pasang you call me. I can be your kamera man!

Going back to the questionof consistent smooth running of our udm's, do engine oil additives like x-ir help? can't remember...somthing was said about this in the old forum. Even saw sifu Kev in a tv ad for the product!

By the way, your "avatar", is it a girl or g@?

try to run your UDM on sepang F1 track..with 50 degree track celsius...there's no cold air.....my car was 20-30% slower than normal...or the track is too wide..that's why I feel slow...check out my in car video in Interesting Downloads section

Interesting topic...

My E34 used to be sluggish in hot afternoons at traffic lights...then found out that while idling, a lot of hot air traps inside the filter box causing engine to choke. Try using some shield.
Just cleaned my throttle body...my advice, do it!!!
Makes world of difference

Just wondering anyone know how the clutch driven fan works?. I know its directly attached to the engine and it has a clutch that activates the fan. How does the fan clutch know when to engage?. Is there a sensor or something? I was told the fan clutch is actually filled with oil, perhaps that has something to do with it activcating. Any experts out there care to explain how it works?.

My fan clutch kicks in quite often (well maybe coz its new) and engine is significantly noisier (whoosh sound) and performance is reduced too due to the higher resistance. On really hot days you can really feel the huge difference in performance when the fan clutch is on and off.
The fan clutch is a thermostatic viscous drive. The "oil" in the clutch will change in viscousity due to temperature. This will engage or disengage the fan. In either case, the fan should be rather free-turning when the engine is cold. If it does not turn at all, it is frozen, and should be replaced.

I was pleasantly surprised at how an efficient cooling system can enhance your drive in hot weather. After flushing my radiator, my car now seems so much more willing even when stuck in hot stop and go KL traffic. The bentley manual says flush your radiator every 36 months but in our kind of climate i'd say do it every year! :D

Generally it seems our UDMs perform better when the engine runs cooler, as the recent posts show - cleaning the throttle body & using a heat shield, checking the clutch fan, flushng the radiator etc. In my case, even a new battery made a big difference although only for a few days (but didn't happen with other cars!). Just my two cents.

hi guys, that means this issue become common to all bimmers.. I've friend at Germany also have 535i bimmer. I raised up this problem to him, why car ran smoothly and powerful durig early morning or just started or in cold weather?? he said, that's normal... at germany they do not face this problem at all, because the temperature never hit 18C. bmw ran good in cold weather. bimmerman/bmmd318i are correct, there is the issue on air density.... for me this is quite stupid ma.... what about other cars.... i think there is no problem like this except Bimmer.....

In short, the clutch fan activation can be easily adjusted by the piece of small plate at the center of the clutch fan. The closer the plate to the clutch fan, the slower the clutch fan will kick in. Watch out on the temp gauge, tho!

actually, the e34 needs to be pampered or some TLC everyday.

also, at least once a week must do this:

- wallop to red line all the way i.e. to klia and back in top speed
- fill up v-power and pakai tanpa ekonomi 'in mind'
- wash engine every other weekend
- wash under car every other weekend

then your car wil be fine..

huh!!!???? wash engine every weekend..???? wha you so panddai ah!!??

I wash my engine once only and I have to change engine la wei.. :nyehehe:

Might be some truth to this 'urban legend'. However, as I understand it, it only happens to old cars .. ie E30, E34, E28 etc etc .. It seems that E46 does not face this prob. I dunno abt E36 though ...

Then again, u need to be sensitive to ur car to notice the changes ...

So .. next time for track day, do at nite lorrr ....
