for cheap grunt, plonk in an M60B40. long term maintenance and fun, M54B30 :)

based on ur suggestion that night, i will have to find:

M50B25TU halfcut
525i subframe
cut & re-weld long shaft most probably
find an M50 gearbox (can be from E36)
better find a differential from manual 24V 525i

the rest are maintenance parts: all hoses, plugs, new radiator, etc.....

I think i gonna slowly collect these few things....

all 520i use small subframe i think, i heard the handling is inferior to bigger subframe

i know a fellow. he is very happy with his M60, especially on highways :)

Power's decent... but if POWER is the only thing you're looking for then dont bother with M60B40 as you aint gonna be the King of the Road.. but if u wanna siok sendiri every now and then yet maintaining the conti heritage.. go for it

man that's going to cost a bomb to maintain that engine but im sure the power delivers from that engine sure VROOM. :laugh: nah not really interested to be the king of the road. as long can drive comfortably at high speed in highways, say 200 above is more than enough for me :p

initially had in mind to either go for M50TUB25 or M60B30. but for 3.0 road tax is pretty deadly already :shot:
 
Power does not come cheap - esp for old engine.

M30b35 - not too bad but parts are not easy to get .. Newer engine has better power delivery
M60B40 - V8 - expect to double the cost .. smooth though
M62B44 - V8 - cost, cost and cost - smooth and powerful
S38B36 - The ///M series. Not as powerful as the M62 but it's a well balance engine.

My personal choice - obviously the S38B36 ...

But if u want to have easy maintenance .. M50 is the asnwer.

How deep is your pocket ..

yeah, i think the parts availability and the area under the torque curve is more important to me, and my pocket is not deep enough for the time being, so i think i m going the M5X route...
 
ok let's say if i have found the halfcut, i am going to sell my original M20, how much it can be sold??


Engine Compartment M20B20 (water hoses juz change 10 months, zero oil consumption and water consumption)
last time using castrol GTX 20w-50 got minor oil consumption, now using castrol GTX 15W-40, strangly no more consumption even frequent high rev)

Manual Gearbox, should be getrag 240, complete with long shaft and differential, rear axle..


ANYONE IS FREE TO ACCOMPANY ME TO VIEW THE HALFCUT?! i m not so expert in checking the health of engine la.....

Btw Morpheus...I got the replacement head already, bought the whole engine (from half cut) from Hakitrade Subang for 1.5k..:wink:

I think Bro Yap could find one for you from a very reliable source..I'd seen his half cut which is very low mileage and nicely cut for conversion, e.g complete uncut carpet & wiring!..all handled with very care...so you will have much leftover for you to keep for spare or put it back on market...it worth every single sen!!:rock:
