hi to all!anybody can advice me on the rear disc brake system?currently using the original e30 320i drum brake.thinking of changing it to disc brake.any idea on where to get,how much, what model suits & the advantages & disadvantages of it......thank you!

Hi jojo,

I changed mine. Cost RM700/900. Cant remember the actual price. Worth the money. Hated the drums previously. Advantages are obvious. Dont know any disadvantages.

Any decent mechanic should be able to do the job. Good luck.

1) Install whatever u buy from the chop shop .. Make sure the handbrake cable is not cut ..

2) Refurbished the whole thing.

I opted option 2; meaning everything are new; disc, pad, handbrake shoe, cable, bearing. Basically, I only use the arm and the disc cover ...

Cost me circa RM1,500 all in ..

Again, my life is worth more than that ...

thanx brother!

hehe....my life worth more than that too......

Rear drum brakes "makan" more when you pull the handbrake, so it's easier to do e-brake drift and donuts. That's probably the only advantage.

Other than that, the disc brake is superior in all other aspects :D

yup!it all depends on wht u wanna do tht for?hehe....

for everyday driving with no weekend 'stunts',thn go for the discs as they r better!

Discs are good esp when in dry conditions...it behaves differently when its wet-meaning to say it needs to be slightly compressed so that da discs gets dried(by heating up da discs).thats y sometimes da brakes doesnt makan for awhile when you imediatly press on them(tat's when al four are discs)

Havin a mix of disc n drums is good because drums don't loose traction that easily when it rains because its contained in a casing that helps keep it dry...

Bad thing about drums are they heat up easilly...so don't keep pressn da brakes when going down hill

Price, checked recently...about 1k if you interested can PM me. but the parts are not brand new...

Personely,if you don't intend to mod mod mod den the braking power would be sufficient.Another alternative is to get a larger brake master cilider...there's a recommendation about it on one of the totalbmw mags.

any other opinion anyone?

Done my rear disc conversion at RM650 with ATE new hand brake cable & new brake pad...

so far it works better than the always leaking wheel cylinder...

brake efficient increase little bit, not much different compare to drum just that the maintenance is easier...

how come the words will ignite one ??

did i said something wrong this time ???

thanx a lot man for the advice & opinion!
i think i have made up my mind on it.........
thank you!
