E30 Performance Upgrade

Doesn't matter......the 3.5lb regulator cannot fit on the M40 fuel rail anyway.....................

And I thought Kevster would be the first to suggest a fuel rail upgrade, with a fuel pressure gauge at the end!!!

Bundy - here is my experience with the O2 sensor. Modded engine to increase performance. Set to run slightly rich at top end to avoid meltdown. O2 sensor start getting plastered with carbon (due to un-burnt fuel) with too many top end runs. Sensor messes up readings and feeds wrong info to ECU. ECU compensates according to readings, resulting in inconsistent air fuel mixture.
End result - hesitant engine.
Remedy - clean O2 sensor (luckily did not have to replace). Keep mods but avoid too many top end runs, or go back to start! :D

On a serious note and IMHO, if there is one mod that would give a meaningful upgrade in performance, and bang for the buck, it is an MAF kit. This will be measurable on the dyno.

Oh kev, I thought fabian fitted one on his M42B18 (3.5 pressure regulator)?

As for running it rich, I had these 24lb/hr injectors on my car before. Instantly can feel the massive low end torque (a 0-100 test run measured with the G tech confirmed it) but not much on the top end. Removed it later as the fuel consumption was bad (how about RM30 for 100km?). Other than the bad fuel consumption, never really had any problems with it.

I would probably do the same with my current M20B23 engine, installing a set of M50B25 injectors if I decide to keep the current engine.

Rgds

The fuel pressure regulator is different on the M40 compared to the M42.... and yes, I'm using the 3.5 bar FPR... much better low end torque.
