E30 sifus out-there,need some help. got some money to spend. need to know the effective & economical way to upgrade the 4 potter e30 performance. want to 'run' a lil' bit faster. not interested in changing the engine. read from old forum bout changing the clutch fan, injector thingy, lighten flywheel etc. etc. pls help me up. can racun a lil' bit. i'll calculate again my budget.. cheers..

Here's a list to start you off:

1. Electric fan - use the one from an e36 as it is plug and play(some wiring required though) to replace your fan clutch to reduce the mechanical load on your engine. Cost: RM 250 for the electric fan from chop shop and RM 150 for the wiring.

2. Lighten your flywheel - again to reduce the load on your engine. Remove 500gms frm you flywheel, remove more and you will lose torque.

3. Upgrade your injectors: Go to the chop shop and look for the injectors from an E34 520i 24valve. Better flow rate and finer spray pattern. Expect to pay RM 150-200. Plug and play, just need to retune your CO to 1.5.

4. Performance chip: this will truly release those hidden horses in your M40 block.

5. Piggy back ECU: one up from the chip as you will have full variable control over your fuel map and ingnition timing.

6. MAF conversion:Mass Air Flow meter, to replace you AFM(air flow meter), this is to be done with no.5 as you need the piggyback ECU to decode the signals from the MAF to your existing ECU.

7. Forced induction: the holy grail.......supercharge or turbocharge your M40 and give the six-potters a run for their money!

8. BUY! BUY! BUY! BUY! BUY! BUY! BUY! BUY! BUY! BUY! BUY!

*Note: Steps 1, 2, & 3 will only improve the drivability of your ride but will not dramatically improve your performance.*

Over to the other sifus for more poison..............hehehehehehe

Would changing to the e36 electric fan be quieter than stock. Coz when my fan come on when the water temp reaches half, it sounds like a MACK truck is coming down the road. Ppl say they hear my car before they see it.

Most definately! Especially during highway cruising, but when the fan comes on it can make your ride sound like a merc.................. :p

Charles dude....apparently for us 6 potters the fan clutch conversion thing is not as straightforward due to clearance problems...if u noticed our engines dun have much space between engine and radiator.....dun even have nice big fan shroud like the 318s....

BUT it is certainly doable....either by custom electric fan job or......have to be creative here....an electric fan from another (non udm) car.....I've read about a fan from a ford escort RS turbo (!!) (check this link http://www.geocities.com/punniracing/ see the 2.7's specs).......

So its doable but I dunno if anyone wants to spend time and money on R&D for this......Kev can u confirm this? Is there anyone out there with a successful conversion for 6 pot E30s?

'Sounds like a Merc' ..........yes it does doesnt it? :)

Blasphemy.......................... .

BM looking or sounding like merc.................................

Anyway my fan can wake up the dead........................

Hmm.... no. 5 and 6 sounds interesting. Kev, how much are they and where can I find them to fix?

My one and only suggestion, change your engine! If you wish to continue using a 4 pot, then go with the 318is engine, or M20B25 engine if you wish to have better torque and the pleasing vroom vrrom music of the six pot :)

Al, what about my Q on fan cunversion for M20....has anyone dun it? Can it be dun?.....burning questions here.....

I dont know if anyone has done for the M20, but someone has done it for the M50. So its do-able, but there is plenty of work to do. Not fixing it but to find the fan that will fit in and also provides adequate air flow.

My honest opinion, leave that alone. Save $$$ and get a bigger engine!

oitss...just wanna add some more poison...... after all the mods... dun forget the rear discs... hehehe n bigger front discs.... that's a really slurrpyyy!!!!.... :D
