hi, I am new to this web site. I have a 1984 e30 320i coupe that i would like to restore. I am not mechanically inclined and not familiar with any workshop. Can anyone advise a place where i can leave the car for restoration. Have about 10k for the engines. Any advise would be appreciated.kung

kung,

maybe you can be more specific with your restoration ?

For example

1) restore to stock/factory standard (with everything original). Then I can be the guy for you.

2) restore to M-Spec (also can be help)

3) restore to your standard (you need to define what you expect from the car)

It can be done step by step (for original restoration).

1st, we need to access what stage is your car. Then we start from mechanical 1st to ensure the car is in running condition which includes engine, brakes, suspension, bushing, gearbox, drivetrain and tires. Then we go to your body works which includes paint, body works, mouldings, rust, exterior lights (headlamp, rear lamp, signal lamp, fog lamp) and undercarriage. Then we move to your interior which includes seats, dash, rubber seals and carpets.

Good luck

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I think what you describe as the process is what i have in mind. Starting from the engine (stock or m-tech depending on ocst) and working through to the interior. Is it possible to get all original parts? The car is not in KL but will sent it to KL for the work. Have plenty of time to do the work. Have another car. The car is in working condition. Body work is quite good but main frame has a bent that i would like fixed during the process. Would restoration be a better process than engine swap. What would a good engines restoration cost? Have about 10k for the engines restoration and maybe another 10k for the rest. Dash and door interior are not good.
Thanks.

please be careful....with 10K in hand ,you can get better upgrade then overhauling the engine.

Again, your car need to be accessed of the current condition.

If your engine is good, just do what is necessary i.e vacumn hoses, air slide valve, icv (if motronic), radiator hose, water pump, timing belt, belts, termostat, plug cables or any leaks in the car.

Money is subjective but RM 10K should be your aim or constrain in restoring your car. Cos, some parts are cheap but some aren't. So, be prepared to spend what is necessary and perhaps in stages.
