Hi sifus Am back with a poser for you- saw an ad in AW for a e30 320i 1984Manual with 325 head on a 320 block. How would this rojak arrangement really boost performance? What would the result be? Hope the learned gurus can enlighten me..Thanks guys! :D

m20b25 head on an m20b20 block?
never really heard of a mod done tht way b4.usually its the other way round.its normally an m20b20 head on a n m20b25 block.now tht config sure as hell works! ;)

Agreed.

wow that sounds interesting! how much torque are we talking about? is there any increase in HP?, hmmm i have a b20 and i am planning for a b25 later.

skar19,i c tht i got ur attention there? :nyehehe:
well as to the torque figures i aint very sure.but u should get more or less about the same torque reading as a b25.
as for hp i think it should almost be the same as an e30 m20b25 give or take a couple hp. ;)
if u wanna convert to tht config, make sure u upgrade to a b25 tranny as well coz due to the increase in hp n torque ur stock 320i prop/drive/long shaft wont hold for long although u get a closer gear ratio but in the long run its not worth it coz it wont b able to sustain the load from the b25.
make sure u get proper n professional advice b4 u decide to embark on this mod.
i am only parting with knowledge tht i know.
bear in mind tht to get the optimum advantage from this mod...its also best to upgrade to a bigger cc injector, maybe a piggyback system and an aftermarket airfilter to mention a few.
but its not vital to upgrade it yet...just enjoy the b25 block with the b25 tranny.u'll like it i assure u! :nyehehe:
pm me if ur really interested.
remember...there r many other engines and blocks u can utilise(m20,m50,
m52....etc)its just up to u how u want it.
regards,
-brad-

M20B20 head + M20B25 block = Good Torque but lesser hp (top end)

M20B20 cylinder head has smaller valves and inlets, that restricts the amount of air+petrol mixture into the combustion chamber and hence the lesser top end, but it will help to generate some low end torque. As to how it actually works, just read some basic engine principles, its related to the inlet and exhaust valve opening duration at low and high rpms.

Rgds

Also higher compression ratio thus engine will run hotter... just be aware guys :)

How does havin a 2.5 head on a 2.0 block increase torque?
That why it should be the other way,b25 block +b20 head.....or just do the interval upgrade.....used back the b20 block n head n change the piston etc......of couse itu block punya lubang kena buatnya besarlah to masukkkan b25 piston.......But not direkomenlah...

B) let me break it out to you all here..

I assume you use the B20 short block.

parts you must change...
1. Cylinder Head Bolts...RM 100plus
2. timing belt and tensioner..RM100 plus
3. Top over gaskets...not cheap!!!
4. The water pump....not cheap anymore.!!
5. radiator hoses...it more then RM300
6. thermostat..consider cheap la..
7. who knows what wear and tear parts in the cylinder head..rocker arms=RM46 per piece x 12....??? rocker arms shafts..RM100per pc x 2=..??
camshaft might be warping..??? that cost a lot..!!
8.engine lube....??
9.coolant..??
10. a little bit of these..and thats!!!
11. workmanship...??I know its not less then RM700
wha..!!

from here...you'll know what to expect...!! :beaten:

better still get an M50 engine..!!! M20 parts now a days are not cheap anymore..aboutb the same as M50.!!

Hi Guys

Based on zoggee's recm.- we should drop a late E36 M50 into the E30 chassis? [correct me if I am wrong here]..hmm has anybody in the club done that? and what kind of costs are we talking abt?

:p

Maybe you can get some views from Albundy on this. I thk he has done some research on this.
Yes its been done before by a forumer. Basically There are many conversion to the E30 like d S50,S52, S38 even the V8 dude. It depends on what you really want! hehehe

TQ Alvin+Zoggee+AlBundy+Tyke

Hmm getting back on track..assuming the seller is not BS-ing..is there any harm to putting the 325 head on the 320 block..?
if there is ..I'll not touch the car with a bargepole!

btw Zoggee great animation with the bouncing jugs..very distracting!

et,
I think 325 head on 320 block will make u lose out compression ratio big time. 325 head combustion chamber is relatively larger compare to 320 head, hence the 325 piston is domed, while 320 piston is flat. Unless there are other things have been done to boost up the CR. I think 325 head on standard 320block could give u less than 8CR. THis should be good for turbo???

What u need to do is to replace the cam from 325 head into 320 head, i heard it has better overlapped angle.

325 head is suitable for 2.5block or 2.7 eta block but with 2.5 piston, or 2.7super eta block. Although 325 head has better flow characteristic, in 2.0L block, it don't improve much as the 320 head from e30 is already an improved version with larger inlet port, double valve spring and what not.

I would say get a B25 engine kosong and just replace the whole thing...Zoggee knows better. But if u have extra $ then ask Alvin how to proceed... I would love combo of 2.7eta+2.0head,

I never thot about 2.5head+2.0block, so i could be wrong... correct me then.

TQ NSBone..

Haha the advice is enough to keep one on the straight and narrow.. I'll steer clear of this modded car then..

Cheers..btw have any members who own early E30 models swapped their K-jet for L-jet injection systems ..heard that the K-jet had problems..is that true?

Well to simplify matters,

1) Get an eta engine, get the motronic ECU and wirings and cylinder head. And if got more $$$ to spend then get a piggy back and complete it with that with an air mass sensor conversion. But will all these, you maybe better off with a M50 conversion :nyehehe: :nyehehe:

That should be the holy grail for the E30!!!

et5,

You are looking at buying an E30 with this conversion right? The 2.5 head on a 2.0 block is a no no but that should stop you from buying the car. To get an E30 1st thing is the chasis & body, then check the interior. If totall very nice, then look at the engine. M20's are easy to find so no worries & not too costly also. Some members here can even help you with that as they may be doing conversions & will part with their current M20 that is if you want it stock. Now if you want your E30 to be something else, do tell us what is your target & how much is your budget. We can always discuss what the possibilities are over a nice cold one.
Just make sure the body & all is good. Engine is secondary after that.
