Hi, it's happened the third time already in about 4 months.Seems to be heat related, as past 2 times i remember letting the temp needle go past halfway becos forgot to switch on electric fan. Both times was sitting in traffic. When I turn the ignition key, no clicks from the starter solenoid. But there is full elecrical power throughout rest of car, headlamps, radio, signals etc.Have to let car 'cool off' for about 40-50 mins before the starter will crank again.Anyone experienced the same? Thanks.

No sound at all? Hmmm... Im having starter problems with my car, have to hammer the motor then can start. Maybe u should ask Redbaron as he has a E28 M30b35 also.

When it happens again, turn on ignition and then start by connecting 12V (battery + or pin 11 on the old type diagnostic plug) to remote starter (pin 14) on the diagnostic connector. (please check the wiring diagram first). If you look under the diagnostic and pin 14 is a thick wire yellow and black it should be the correct one.

If car starts then nothing wrong with starter motor or solenoid etc, check for things like ignition switch, transmission selector switch or start relay (if its an auto), and the wiring. No start, check starter motor, solenoid.

I had this problem turns out the previous owner had the alarm removed and the ignition wire was joined by twisting together, when hot no contact.

good luck

bro,
i have experienced this exact symptom on my e34.go to an experienced wayar man and request them to put a leelay...(a remote solenoid connected in parallel).costs rm120.my e30 also has this fitted by the previous owner.
due to age,the wires probably have high resistance in em.a friend who has an e34 with the same problem even replaced the starter motor but nil joy.

works like a charm.
