To all the sifu,I just bought E61 (2005) - Jpn Spec. Otw back frm kpg, I got shock due to a few lights indicator appeared. It start with air bag indicator and follow by transmission, in-active steering & etc. It also effect the power of the car.Drop at Kuantan BMW & the mechanic advice to check the DVD/sound sys. (Just up-graded) & SBK cable. When I bring the car to KL, another bmw w/shp advised me to change to the original battery & change the SBK cable. Still not satisfied, i bring to another bmw w/shop - advised me to change the alternator and SBK cable due to excess power cause by sound sys. installation.Need the opinion frm the sifus, 1. Does the Sound Sys. may interrupt the SBK ? 2. It is compulsary to use BMW original battery ? 3. What is your advise ?Thank you.

I am by no mean an expert but I have roughly the same issue as you. What I suggest is first go to a shop with gt1 and check whether the previous owner had actually registered the battery, this is if the battery is an aftermarket ones, my previous owner put in an Ns70 which is too underampped (word?) for the car. My mech advised that I change it to DIN88 which removed the restraint error that I had before but a few weeks after it came back. I suspect that the mech did not register the new battery using Gt1. I am going to obermaier to get them to register the new battery and maybe check the IBS (Intelligent battery sensor) too.

This is because, after researching on the internet, i found out that the car will shut off restraint system, and a few other electrical components to protect the battery if its underpowered at cranking.

The best bet is to change the battery at AB with original battery which I think will fix some (if not all) of your issues. The dealer will know to reset the battery through gt1 as they change the battery too. I think it costs about RM1k++to do it at the dealer. Try calling them to find out.

A cheaper alternative is to go to a reputable mechanic insisting that you need to change the battery only and needed that they to register it using gt1 too. Get Din88 or higher amp ones.

P/S - SBK is on the +ve cable while the IBS is on the -ve side. :top: BTW, what size is your battery now?

i decided to change the SBK cable & alternator & batt (GP100 - is it ok?) and dismental the sound sys. cable (will checkback wth the audio shp). Any additional suggestion frm the members?

thks

Bro

If u have the budget go for the original battery its more stable. Whenever ur voltage drop below 12V (even at 11.99V) u will experience fault message poping up. I had that problen a few weeks back and after changing to an original BMW battery all the faulty message are cleared bear in mind u need to reset the system to identify the new battery.
