Folkshave a major problem here, my 525 went into flood water on the road and stalled.cannot push start and whole thing jammed.its at the workshop and diagnosis is to overhaul the piston, engine & everything ORto change a 2nd hand engine.m not sure if any other options available, any ideas anyone??also anyone knows the approximate costs involved

Try to check the MAF sensor first. usually if it breaks, the engine will stall.

the sensors should located just after the air filter, before the throttle body. but it may differ to ur engine..

if the whole thing is jammedyou most probably have hydrolocked your engine ie bent conrods.this could manifest into more damage upon further removal of the internal components.

unless yr mechanic is highly competent and trustworthy, then best to plonk in a used engine.get low miler ones and do a compression test before anything.

gud luck

tks Yasmen

mooots - if i get a used engine, will it be bad when comes to resale coz there is a change of engine on the registration card

where will be a competent & reasonable workshop

yeah, then the problem will be how to explain the change of engine to the new owner.
i wouldnt buy a car that has been through a flood, would you?
and even if u had a new engine, i would still be worried about eveything else.

Change of Engine is the Best Option in this Case...but resale Value might Drop as very Hard to explain to New Owner about the Change of Engine :burnout:

What were u thinking when u were there looking at the flood water... To go or not to go? How high is the floodwater? There are ways to drive thru low floodwater safely but that is another story by itself.

Like moots say, chances are water went into the engine and internal damage done. Been thru that but luckily on a jap car. Overhaul required and few con-rods changed.

Not sure which 525i you driving... If it's the E34 M50, it's running cast iron block. If E39, then it's M52/4 aluminum alloy block...
Alloy block doesn't like sudden cooling ie driving in flood water.

Btw, most importantly is getting a competent mechanic to work on it. Overhaul done by a competent mechanic can be better than replacing the whole engine. But the operative phrase is COMPETENT MECHANIC.

its a 525i (2006) E60 magnesium push start engine

it happened so quickly, i didnt even hv chance to see the flood water, the car went ahed of the road and nxt thing i noe the engine stalled

at that time, it was also raining heavily, canot see clearly and went into the flood water and stuck

it happended in jln bangsar the traffic light in front of BP petrol station

folks if the option is to overhaul the engine, pls show me to a workshop who is competent and reasonable

tks

I just spent RM4800.00 only for half car body flooding at Kuantan.Mine also E60 525i M-sport.
Many workshop request/ quotation me arround 20k to 40k for thats.....

can anyone confirm whether it is true that if after change engine the registration card can also be changed so that it does not state the change of engine??

this was informed to me by the workshop's consultant so if change engine, will not affect the value also??

Can request for new registration card from JPJ but it will state that it's a continuation or something like that. Normally it's when the card is damaged ie soaked in water, soiled... Or in the case of older cars, ran out of space to print roadtax renewal..

if you were to change to same engine.. why need to go jpj?? machine off the halfcut engine number, etch in you ori number. do this while the engine is on the floor.. easy enough?? sigh...

I think this is against the law...
During puspakom inspection the officer found this the car will be held...
No tempered is allowed either chassis no. or engine no...
unless got letter of permission from the RTD...
correct me if I'm wrong...
