Hi guys, turned out the engine check light fault that was triggered on my car since before raya was actually a ventilation leak.Scanned at Bomin earlier and confirmed that the error comes from the CVV or its connecting hoses, can loudly hear hissing sounds from that area indicating an air leak. This has caused misfiring at various cylinders. When scanned with PA Soft the error came as 'O2 Sensor controller mixture too rich'. I thought originally the error came from faulty o2 sensors but its now confirmed that it was air leak.

Probably only one of that various part is leaking, but this is a nearly 10 years old car and its a good idea to change the whole set.Has anybody attempted this job themselves? I can get the part quite reasonably priced.I read about the whole process at http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1528460 but quite useful to know from experienced members here.

Yours is easy.. the 4-potter N42/N46 need to dismantle intake manifold in order to access the CCV.. :(

Once a while I plan to DIY last time and it seems not so hard to do, but ended up went to workshop as I didn't have enough toolset for me. I believe u can do it.

I changed this valve after CNY this year. Forman call it as oil separator. It cost me RM800.

What does that include? Did you change all the hoses?

Also Lim did you change all the hoses?

checked with bavarian auto yesterday, usually ppl replace the valve, vacuum hose, vent hose and return pipe..

bav auto quoted 524 for all parts i listed above.. watched youtube on this.. seems easy enuff to DIY, but maybe time consuming

After watching I dont think it's a difficult diy. I got all three parts of the video downloaded and saved into my phone. I think u should do the same. It's more convenient to refer anytime needed. In the video there are totally 4 hoses and a valve replaced.

If u proceed do remove your icv and clean it as well. It's halfway before u reach the ccv. I have cleaned my icv before.

If your question is referred to me, then yes i did, together with the vanos seal.

Just to add as sharing,

I had the same problem too where my scanner showed 'O2 Sensor controller mixture too rich' on my E46 M54 Engine. In addition to this, I had some misfiring in certain cylinders. Mech initially thought it was the ignition coil. So, I ended up changing one coil and the O2 sensors (part as my preventive maintenance also). But still the error still there. Then got Check Engine Light and scan showed Camshaft Position Sensor.

So, went to get 2nd opinion from another mechanic. The other mechanic told me he can 100% guarantee me it is the CCV just from hearing the sound of air leak in the engine. So, I ended up changing the CCV and the hoses, BUT did not change item 5 though.

After changing it, no more Cold Start in the morning, and I feel the engine oso more responsive !!! Heheh...

So, moral of the story (for me lah) : Learn the error code properly first. :p

Oh, btw bro, I think you can DIY lah. I saw my mech changed this. It is not hard :) All the best.

Was running through my receipts...

I replaced my CCV and breather vent hose for rm225 & rm130 respectively for M52B25 back in 2009.

If you can't replace the components or plug the air leak and need to use the car, you can always temporarily seal off the suction and intake hoses and leave the crankcase hoses open and turn it into a PCCV system.
Only downside is mother nature is going to hate you a little more :p

U want to know how difficult to remove ours? The N42/N46 engine? :motz:
