Hi, i'm currently rebuilding my E30 (finally), and i'm looking for some things. Perhaps someone in the forums has any information on what i'm looking for.First on the list is an M20B25 halfcut. If anyone is selling one that you know of, or if you know a good place to look for halfcuts, feel free to advertise.Halfcut should include: (besides the engine)Reasonable dashboardDriveshaftRear-axles + disc brakesFront armsFront disc-brakesFront side-panels of the carSteering rack + power steeringReasonable front bumper (optional)The rear-axles have to be in pretty good condition, not grinded out and loose. I know its asking much for a 20-year old car but i also know near-perfection is possible... Oh yeah, and Manual only, my mechanic keeps trying to sell me auto halfcuts - I DOWAN!Next on my list is an LSD. I can't be bothered to look for a specific one, because if i do i'm just going to keep on looking forever. So i'm out for whatever one fits and works. Any ratio goes. I know someone in this forum is selling, so PM me and i'll get back to you.I'm also looking for a good place to do a rust-job. I need to basically scrape up the entire undercarriage and interior flooring and weld over all the lobangs. Engine bay also has a few holes to weld (including a nasty one on one of the suspension mounting thingys). So, if anyone can recommend a good place to do this for a reasonable amount of Ringgits, i'll be grateful. Also, i'm looking for ways to stiffen up the body of the car, such as double-weling (or seam welding, whatever).Lastly, i'm looking at changing all the trimmings to black (my car is red), so's i can get that stylo look. Ha, ha, ok i mean the typical red-E30-with-black-trimmings look. I honestly have never been to any accessory shops that sell BMW parts, so i'm totally clueless on this. Perhaps there are some locally fabricated parts that are cheaper than original? I don't know, someone enlighten me on this.If anyone has any suggestions on how i should go about converting my car, feel free to suggest. I know next to zilch on mechanics, except how to change my oil and battery water, so if i've messed up any information, please excuse me.And, btw, i'm seriously buying ah, not just asking. Car is currently collecting dust in the garage, and the sooner i get it done the better.

Oh boy, here we go again ..... :D :D :D Me Equalizer, you Joyi - how do you do??? This sounds interesting:

Me too starting the project probably sometime July .....

Yeah, if i find a place to get it done for a good price before you do, i'll let you know. :eek:k:

hi joyi
i;am doing my conversition now. to find perfrct half cut is quite costly, about rm6000. got mine for 2500 left hand drive auto. going to blue print and strip the engine. going to use the old gear box and trade in the auto for a couple of hundred bucks. the cost will probably be the same buying the perfect half cut but mine will churn out around 190bhp after the process. i;m doing the job somewnhere in glenmarie. hope i'll help.. cheers.

jae,

2.5k is reasonable for a LHD, but racks go for 500-700, and dash the same

make sure the mechanic delivers what he promises as there are "some" con-job mechanics in glenmarie area that i know of

if you can get a dyno, make sure you are there when your car is dyno-ed

other then that, make a point to visit your car very so often, and make sure you know that your parts are there.......

Halfcut should include: (besides the engine)

Reasonable dashboard
Driveshaft
Rear-axles + disc brakes
Front arms
Front disc-brakes
Front side-panels of the car
Steering rack + power steering
Reasonable front bumper (optional)

The rear-axles have to be in pretty good condition, not grinded out and loose. I know its asking much for a 20-year old car but i also know near-perfection is possible... Oh yeah, and Manual only, my mechanic keeps trying to sell me auto halfcuts - I DOWAN!

joyi,

do come and join the TT sessions and some of the owners may be able to point you to the right direction

most E30 halfcuts are auto, so it will be hard but not inpossible to find a manual one, other then that, you can always opt to get a manual with the shafts and rear diff for a good price, at least go to shops that have 2-3 for sale so if there is anything wrong, you can always revert back to them

Nice to hear ...

Good Luck ..

You should contact guys like

Teejay
Alvin
Zoggee (Taikor)
Kevster
Jeffreyewe
Fabian ...and the rest of the e30 sifu's

they got lotsa jalan one

cheers :D

I got a quote from my mechanic for RM5000 for a perfect set halfcut, what do you guys think? I was actually hoping to find one for around RM4000, but if 5k is a good deal, i'll go for it.

Oh, and thanks for the replies.

Bah, the damn halfcut is in as bad a condition as the parts that i want to replace on my car, and all that's left that i can find is auto, auto and more auto. Sigh, back to square one...

What are the costs of bringing in a halfcut from overseas? I might be going to Europe in August, and i know E30s are cheap over there. Might as well find one, strip it down or cut it in half, whatever, and ship it over. Ok, so i don't know an exact figure for the price of the car over there, but i've been told that RM15,000 is ridiculously overpriced for an E30 in europe...

Oh well, if i can't find a proper halfcut, i'm just going to spoil the car and throw an SR20DET into it. I was always under the impression that finding original parts for this car was easy enough... little did i know that this is a nightmare.

:aggressive: :aggressive:

Rebuilding a E30, needs patience and a lot of TLC.
My ride was a total wreck b4 I bought it, 2 1/2 years have passed and I'm still rebuilding it.

Like what tyke said,".....it's the satisfaction". :eek:k: :eek:k:

yup, thnx for ur help in convincing joyi jeff!
we dowan another convert to the darkside do we?
hehehe!
c'mon....we need more ppl to cuntvince him!

I don't mind taking my time to build the car, the problem is that its my daily driver and i need it up and running by end July. By end of this month would be even better, but that's being too hopeful.

I'll take tyke up on his offer though, so's i don't fall to the darkside :D
