Morning :smokin: , Say, you have not driven/start your 1series for the last 7-9 hours....for example u go home, park your car and then only drive the next morning. And when u start in the morning : 1. Do u drive away almost immediately after starting? 2. And if u do drive off immediately, does your engine shudder/rpm dip when u engage into Drive/Reverse? And when that happens the car engine feels like it wants to "mati engine"? 3. Do u let the engine run for a while, say like 30 seconds to 1 minute or more, before driving away? 4. Do u rev the engine before u engage into Drive/Reverse? :D Thanks.

1. Do u drive away almost immediately after starting?
> Not usually. If I do, I let it roll (keep the RPM low)

2. And if u do drive off immediately, does your engine shudder/rpm dip when u engage into Drive/Reverse? And when that happens the car engine feels like it wants to "mati engine"?
>I have a Manual.

3. Do u let the engine run for a while, say like 30 seconds to 1 minute or more, before driving away?
>Yes. 1 minute is usually sufficient. This is to warm up the combustion camber, spark plugs, CAT converters, and oxygen sensors.

4. Do u rev the engine before u engage into Drive/Reverse?
Never. You are putting extra stress to gear syncho.

So, warming up the engine before driving away is good? I thought all modern cars can be driven away immediately... :)

Yes. But better if you can wait for few seconds.
Less carbon deposit, better fuel efficiency, and etc.

thanx for the info guys , i didnt know it makes any diff.. anyway i usually wait for a while.

np.
And dont' rev the car when you just start it up.
And dont' rev the car when you going to turn the key off.
Bad for car :)

noted, thanx bro :4:

anyway guys a bit off topic, there's gonna be 1series TT somewhere within this month, ill keep u guys updated

I don't think so.

Nope.

4. Do u rev the engine before u engage into Drive/Reverse?
No.

many people ask this question in many cars articles. if you notice in E46 manual (i assume all BMW series manual have a similar writeup) they do not recommend warming up the engine, just start and go but in low rpm, below 2000rpm. until the engine warmup (maybe 1 minute after it reach the normal operating temperature for the engine oil). acorrding to the article in NST every sunday under CBT section, Dr FixIt say warming up the car only create unnecessary waste of petrol and carbon monoxide, so just start moving once u start your car but in low RPM.

It does feel a bit sluggish if I hentam minyak immediately upon ignition. Probably not warmed up yet, that's why.

I don't, coz always rushing :)

4. Do u rev the engine before u engage into Drive/Reverse?
Errr, what is this ah?

Yes, that's more like it. Start and Go but moderately. Keep your rpm (revolutions/per/minute) low (its that other dial on your dash besides the one that reads your speed) untill your oil temp. reading is at 'dead centre' vertically. No more no less.

rev = press (with your foot) the fuel pedal more than normal, resulting in higher revolution reading in the right meter (for the 1series) :D / "tekan the minyak" :D

Hope the above simple explaination can use :)

haha! PION...this posting left me in stiches.. I do that too :top: I may look or seem like a rempit revving it up like that but :thefinger: what the heck... love the exhaust note.

This=====> :thefinger: is cool, very cute emoticon indeed. lols.

1. Do u drive away almost immediately after starting?
Not anymore...I always fire my baby up and let it run while I put my stuff in the boot and adjust my hair in the vanity mirror or somethin.. lols...(just jokin bout the latter):thefinger:

2. And if u do drive off immediately, does your engine shudder/rpm dip when u engage into Drive/Reverse?
Yes, initially did that and a few times the baby died on me.:burnout::eek: Engine hesitates when u drive off but only happens when it's under economy mode. Doesnt happen in Sports mode. I have auto.hmmmmm

3. Do u let the engine run for a while, say like 30 seconds to 1 minute or more, before driving away?
Yes...I dont like to rush. lols... I let the baby heat up for like 1 min.

4. Do u rev the engine before u engage into Drive/Reverse?
ermm..sometimes..when I'm the mood. :thefinger:
