Hi all, need your advice.

My E90 320LCI is approaching 95,000km.

I was at MSpeed to replace brake light - bulbs and Ah Meng actually suggested that i should modify the cooling system - from current fluid base to fan type (like Japanese car)?!. He said that there is a danger for the coolant to leak into the gearbox resulting in damage of the gearbox which will cost about 10k to repair. He said some cars have experienced this and he also showed me a same E90 320LCI which he has worked on. I hope i get the details correct, but it is along those lines.

He also told me to change my fuel pump.

He certainly put some fear in me. But i told him to let me think about it.
Anyone knows about this and kind enough to share and guide?

I hope Mspeed Ah Meng is not taking me on a ride.
Any negative experience with MSpeed anyone, recently?

Pls help.
Thank you, thank you so much.

hi bro,
i have been a regular at ah meng for quite some time. have also introduced friends & family to him and so far no one have complained. why did he ask you to change the fuel pump?? was there any particular problem?? I have heard of the coolant leaking into gearbox for e90, but not sure about the severity. If you are uncomfortable, than don't do it.

Hey gimli.. I have also been to ah meng for a few times for service and repair.
He ask to change fuel pump because mileage is now 93k. Is this good reason to change? Or he is trying to generate more sales?
Like i said, i was just there to replace 2 bulbs, which he gave free.

Few months ago, i was also there to change 2 bulbs (the other side). He changed them and said no charges. I was delighted. But then he asked me to change gear oil. I just said yes, so the visit ended up more than a thousand RM.

Normally the transmission oil will leaked into the radiator system when the heat exchange is faulty as the oil pressure is higher than the radiator pressure.

I have change my heat exchange for my GB from water cool type to air cool type for my E46 (similar to my E36).

Changing the fuel at 95K is part of the maintenance or You can wait until your car stalled at the road side due to fuel pump failure.

Problem is that the fuel pump comes with the fuel guage sender. So you are also paying for the fuel guage sender which is most probably
working. You can buy the pump by itself thru online and save some money.

Note: I bought a fuel pump from Auto Bavaria and faced some problem in starting in the morning and also car stalled at the quarter tank.
Found out that the fuel outlet pressure was rated as the fuel regulator. This cause minimum petrol to be re-circulated back and cause
the quarter tank problem. Change the pump with 4 bar pressure and have not have the starting problem and quarter tank problem since.

bro, where did you hear of coolant leaked in GB?

ah meng told me there is a risk of coolant from radiator leaking into GB and damage it.
He placed the fear in me. And asked me to change it on the spot!

Is this a real problem?
Necessary to make this modification, or is the mechanic trying to generate more sales?

Normally it is the other way round. When the heat exchanger failed, ATF will get into the radiator.

the changing of ATF is something you should do, so that is not a waste of money. you can't really blame him bro, he is trying to upsell, that's what most businesses do. but i can understand your predicament, if you don't feel comfortable, just tell him no budget :69:

Ah Meng is very much a preventive maintenance advocate. He'd always suggest to change this n that under a 'before-it-happens' pretext, but end of day, its still your call.

Would probably be better to search e90post to see if the n4x engine platform as a cooling system issue or not . As far as i know, the most common problems on the n5x engine platform is the failure of the electric water pump (which also happened to me ) .

The first sign was that the electric fan was constantly running high, regardless of driving condition. (car was 155k km ?) Check for logged error codes and there was a fault code for the water pump (can't remember what it was now) , got it changed along with the thermostat (since it was cheap-ish)

After read the long conversation make me worried on my car which now approaching 185k but never changge the fuel and water pump before. So the advice is to change even no indicator of problematic?
